Is that "checker board" piece (tray?) all inlay work, or are the circles recessed spots for rings and such? Hard to tell from the size of the picture, Tbe box is gorgeous. Nice design work on the project sheet as well.

Very nice Chip. We also have a show and Tell at the woodworkers club. This would be a nice piece to show off.

Chips, this is a beautiful piece. How about more detail? I'd particularly like a few close-up shots of the hinges and a description of how they were made.

Another great project, the combination of the wood is pleasing to the eye. The joinery is superb. I'd like to see some larger images though.

Great piece. I'm very interested in the hinges. Are they made like rounded over box joints? If so do you have to make them looser to allow for better movement?

Dick - Thanks for your kind words. I replaced the old pics with bigger ones. This was my first project posted here and back then I wasn't sure how big a pic could be downloaded.

Iclashley - There are kits for doing these out there. I studied the kit, priced the router bits seperately and put together a jig which was cheaper. The extra long 1/8" drill bit was probably the hardest thing to find. The Incra (?) kit has great step by step pics which is what I went by. I have the address here someplace and will try to find it for you. Thanks a lot for your comments and for taking a look.

Chip! I missed this one. I got caught up in examining your other box. The hinge is brilliant! I really like the contrast in woods, and your detail with the insert is most impressive. I have trouble with final touches like this. It is really quite an inspiring piece of work!
