Project Information
Here are a few turnings I did this last week or so. Just doing some practice and playing around. It is my main way to relax after work.
2 Footed Cups from pallet wood. Tall one is 5 tall x 2. Small is 2 1/4×1 1/2. Finish is mineral oil.
Another Zebrawood Bowl with Cocabolo Lid and Oak Finial. 3 1/2 diam x 4 tall. Only slightly hollowed. Finish is Tung Oil/Varnish. The finial was some of the hardest wood I have used so far. It is crotch grain and had to sharpen my tools three times just on this small piece in order to stop tearout and chattering. ( only sharpened once on the zebrawood).
First VERY hollow turning is next. Only 2 1/4×1 1/2. Hollowed to 1/8 wall all the way from lip to bottom. Had to make a new hollowing tool from an ALLEN wrench to get this done. Was a real challenge being so small. Opening is only 3/4 inch. Did not finish this with anything. Used shaveings to burnish at high speed after 400 grit. Think this is oak but not sure. More cut off bin wood.
Here are a couple of more Chain Pulls for a cieling fan. My one daughter likes to bowl so I made these for her.
Last is a couple more Christmass ornaments. Right one is Tulipwood 2 1/2 tall x 1 1/2. Left is Bubinga 2×1 1/2. Finished with Tung Oil/Varnish after 400 grit. (sanding was a PAIN)
Really enjoyed makeing all of these. Used a Jam Chuck on the bowls in order to finnish the bottoms. It is a challenge getting that fit correct. (Took 3 tries on the hollow form.) The lid for the box was also done with a jam chuck.
Hope you all enjoy these as much as I did makeing them.
The more I turn, the more I think I may have found my passion in wood. This is more relaxing and enjoyable then trying to get those corners tight on them boxes. haha
Please post all comments and suggestions. I am allways trying to push my skills and improve what I do.
Thank You for looking.
