Project Information

I purchased a print of this picture, & one day I decided to do a relief carving of it.

I carved it using Red Oak, & the overall dimensions of it including the frame are 11 1/2" X 15 1/2". I finished it with Watco Danish Oil . It's also one of our favorite carvings, & it hangs near our kitchen table.

The picture originated in 1918 in the small mining town about 20 miles from my home town. The famous photo was created by Eric Enstrom of Bovey, MN.

The town is now an historical place, & they now display a bronze plaque of the photo in front of the city hall. The water tower also displays "The HOME OF GRACE" in large letters.

I remember this photo at my greatgrandparents farm. I think it was in the kitchen. Thanks for the link to its history. As always nice work!

Dick-

Was investigating carving work on the site and stumbled upon this gem. What a terrific piece Dick. Beautifully executed. You sure have some wonderful carvings posted here but this one is outstanding. Glad you posted it and thanks.

Thank you Chip, & thank you Dennis even though I'm 6 months late.

I've learned to use a little more courtesy here on Lumberjocks . It's been real good for me.

Beautiful, I recognized it as soon as I saw the thumbnail. That Print has been in my Mom's dining room for as long as I can remember.
