Nice. It looks like you cut right into the center of the pith. How do you keep it from splitting later? Where did ya get the cool claendar? Do you put the wipe on on or off the lathe (running)?

Rod, I hope I don't get any splits. That is one of the few times I have turned along the grain (if thats the correct term). Time will tell. The wipe on poly was not applied on the lathe.

Very nice Grumpy!

If you're worried about it splitting, you could drill out the pith to relieve the stress, Then plug it

Some wood may never split if it was totally dry at the start, especially smaller diameter.

Interesting calendar top, never seen one of those, wonder where I could get some.
