Very very very very nice! It's so easy to screw the whole veneer thing up. What was the substrate under the veneer? I like the thin chamfered line of birch edging.

Is that one of these Woodcraft/Rockler veneer packs with the center on the top and the rest cut to lay on the sides? Did you veneer all 4 sheets to the bb ply then cut? I'm making a cremation container for a friend's wife who passed away and that top is stunning! What are the dimensions? I know I've got a lot of questions. Sorry, but I love the look of this. :)

Great use of the burl and the contrast with the wenge is perfect. I would have prefered to see wenge veneer covering the ply when the box was opened, and possibly a wenge string on all the corners.

- substrate under veneer? Birch plywood, the euro style 9 ply, 1/2 inch thick. I think this is too thick and heavy for a box this size, but the hinges I owned already caused me to accept it.
- veneer was purchased from Carlton McLendon Rare Woods & Veneers. I bought a flitch of 16 so you'll see it again on a future project
- the veneer four-way book match is designed, cut and taped before gluing onto the substrate, see https://www.lumberjocks.com/projects/412968 for pictures and description from a similar effort.
- after building a veneered panel, then I cut miters and folded, see my https://www.lumberjocks.com/projects/159066 as an example of the technique used.
- dimensions are listed above 10×6 x 5.5 inches

- I too thought that I might should cover the plywood edges, but chose not to because it would interrupt the pattern on the outsides while closed. I hope to have achieved a clean look while closed and realize I've sacrificed something when open. I'm thinking on my next one, I'll try and dye or stain the ply edges to match the wenge. Or, maybe try and construct the panel such that there is a hardwood strip where I plan to cut off the top.
- re: stringing, the exposed birch is really an adaptation when I found that the elm more cracked than folded during assembly. I considered a more traditional approach to stringing as you suggest but not ever having tried it then decided on simplicity again.
