Project Information

I just finished up a few things that were roughed out last year and needed completing.
The first four are my Muffin Master spoons and are great for mixing thick batter ( easy on the hands) and the scoop holds enough for one muffin. The 2 on the left are Osage Orange and the 2 on the right are mesquite. They are 11 inches long and finished with Danish oil and buffed and waxed. One of the mesquite ones has a little fractal burning on it.

The bowl is mesquite with a little natural edge left on the top edge along with some sap wood. It is finished with Danish oil and gloss lacquer. The center had a rot hole in it when I got to the bottom and it is filled with turquoise.

Cheers, ,Jim

A muffin spoon? What a great idea! I make muffins for breakfast every Thursday. I finally broke down and got silicone muffin cups to simplify things a bit but a special spoon would step up my game even more!

Hi Mike. I make cranberry oatmeal muffins regularly and using those metal spoons was getting hard on these old hands so I developed this spoon shape and have sold a bunch of them. Silicone muffin cups? Do you put them in a muffing tin of 6 or 12 at a time? Do you use them to replace the paper ones?

cheers, Jim

Jim,

Yup! They are great! They pop right off the muffin after baking and wash up real easy. I got a pack of 2 dozen for a a quarter at a "Quarter to Five" store over in the Soo (new products on wholesale - prices start at $5 on Sunday every week and by Friday and Saturday, everything drops to a quarter.) Amazon has a set of 56 cups for $9.99 or you can buy a silicone muffin pan instead of individual cups. They also come in different shapes if you want to play!

Mike

Jim, I love the idea of thicker handles. Most wooden spoons have such skinny handles that you can't get a good grip on them when you need to put some uumph into stirring.

Question: how did you work the turquoise into the bottom of the bowl?

Love that thicker handle!

+1 on the silicone muffin cups. Mimi uses hers all of the time. Just stick them in the dishwasher and they're ready to go again!

Thank you all for the nice comments.

Hi Mike, those silicone cups are really cool. I have never heard of a Quarter to Five store but I like that idea too..A scrounge like me would be there every Friday!!
As for the turquoise inlay, I turned the bowl to the finished shape and when I saw the center was
rotted out, I filled it with turquoise, CA glue and a spritz of acetone and then finished turning the bottom and sanded it like usual. It does not go through luckily!! This piece was kind of U shaped to begin with and the bark went down deep in the center. I should take a shot of some of the crazy looking pieces that I begin with. Most of them would be pitched in the fire barrel by some folks

Nice Spoons. Something Special about Wooden Spoons. Nice to eat with too.
Really good job Jim. I must have a go at making wooden spoons. They would be nice to use for my Rolled Oats at Breakfast.
Regards…...Cliff.
