Project Information

I've been wanting to try this for sometime. I did waste a fair amount of lumber trying to get the parallelograms cut just right. I started out with 1 3/4 thick stock of walnut maple & cherry. They were then ripped on the tablesaw to 1 3/4" wide, then cut at 30 degree 2 " lengths. I glued 22 of these together (see pic 4) and then slowly glued all those together to a rough board. Its true you can't have too many clamps! Its a tough glue-up. Cut the excess waste on the tablesaw/crosscut sled and ran through the planer. Sanded to 240 and finished with mineral oil/beeswax mix. One thing I've learned to do on cutting baords is after the first sanding, I use a spray bottle of water to wet the board down, raise the grain and then do a final sanding. It does make a difference. The board is 17" x 10" x 1 1/2". I did have a few gaps that I filled with the glue and sawdust trick. Next one will be better and larger.

Thanks for looking.
