Project Information
I made this out of Poplar and oak dowels holding the handle in, finished with satin spray lacquer. Gave this to a friend for his b-day, I also had a fun giving him a hard time when I realized he has the same initials as Tim Tebow.
I took KnotCurser's advice this time and cut dado's rather than rabbets like I did with my growler totes to make sure the bottom never comes loose. And I went to literally more than 8 stores here in the area and I couldn't find a mountable bottle opener anywhere! (actually I found 1 but it was a Oregon Ducks opener, and my friend is from Washington, definitely not an Oregon fan so I passed on it, guess I will just have to order them online, I just waited to long)
I used acetone to transfer the initials onto the side of the tote, and I had a little piece of clip art of hops nuggets that I used gel medium to put onto the sides, but when I went to put a coat of spray lacquer on I realized that you can see the rectangular outline of the paper, and it drove me crazy. Well I didn't have time to redo the whole thing, cut the hops logo out and get rid of all the waste paper before applying the gel medium so I just sanded the whole thing off. The gel medium made a layer over the wood and the lacquer wouldn't penetrate it so the where my hops nuggets were had a rectangle around it was unacceptable. I've learned a lot from the whole gel medium thing lately, I have a post to come soon about all of my experimenting with gel medium.
Thinking about making a couple more of these, but probably in 3 or 4 packs, buying 6 22's at once is quite a bit, and this tote is bigger than my growler totes, its a tad bulky, but then again you can never have enough beer!
