Project Information

My recipient this year was Dave Kelley (LJ: KelleyCrafts). The design is from an old issue of Wood Magazine. There is a name for this type of glue up but I can't remember it. Lines were burned with pieces of Formica which I prefer over wire. I made a matching awl for a bonus project.

Materials are white mulberry and cumaru (?). I believed it was cumaru until someone posted pictures in a recent thread of their cumaru and it didn't look like this. Whatever, it is very hard, as hard as ipe; but more beautiful.
Final weight is 22 oz.
Finish is blonde shellac.

Those are extraordinary Rick. I really like the way they are put together to produce an eye-catching design.

Very impressive set - love the colors / combination.
Really generous to add in the awl - Ive made a couple of awls but with leather & long nail - youve inspired me to follow your example
