Great project Gary. Love the spalted wood for a project like this. It's perfect! The bear is awesome too! Definitely unique and cool great job on this. Beautiful tote as well.

Oh missed this one Gary. I don't know what hackberry is, but I love the grain. I also dig that bear head bottle opener. That gnarly, spalted wood and the bear head are made for one another. Nice work!

It really is a very striking tote, and the bear is a great touch.

Hackberry looks like, and is used in a lot of places where ash would be, but it's more closely related to elms. In any case, darned pretty!

There is hackberry everywhere up here Gary, but this is the first I've seen it used. Beautiful coloring and the spalted aspect just adds to it. I really love the bear head opener! Great job!

Thanks guys, you will find I am a huge proponent of using found or salvaged woods. Blind luck to get one that came out so very very cool. Duck feel free to swing by, there are about 3 more big logs I couldn't load by myself.

Thanks again for all the kind words and encouragement, I will say if you haven't jumped in on one of the swaps yet you really should. It was a great time and everyone was helpful (sometimes) and you pick up on some great tips for improving your skills. And you get to give something that hopefully they get use out of for years to come.

Wow, I thought Pooh got this one but you built for Pooh. Only like 9 swap participants and I can't keep it straight. lol

What is the bear made out of? Is it plastic with a metal insert inside or cast iron or something. I can't tell.
