Project Information

A pair of 2 piece Greenland Kayak Paddles that I just put on the first coat of oil.
Each is built from 11 strips of wood.

Putting on that first coat of oil is one of the best parts, that is when you really get to see what the wood is going to look like when finished. YouTube video link below:

Wow - beautiful. Have a colleage who wants me to try to build paddles for him. Looks like a challenging project.

NIce use of the pure Tung oil. It is reassuring to hear that you have good results with it on paddle. I use it on most of my work these days. I was interested to hear that you apply it every 24 hrs. I find I get better results if I apply every 3-7 days. I am thinking it has to do with the humidity down here in florida. I typically hang up the cloth that I apply it with, and when the cloth is solid, then I know it's time for the next application.

Welcome back Joe! It is always great to see your beautiful paddles! Putting the finish on is near magic seeing the colors come to life. Thanks for sharing.
