Showcase cover image for 2 Key Bowls

Project Information

2 Cherry Bowls, next time someone asks for a key bowl I'll have one ready. Both have a food safe finish.

The 1st is 8.75" X 2.5".

The 2nd is 8.5" X 2".

I roughed out some larger bowls from the same tree but unfortunately they all split into firewood.

Beautiful bowls John.
That cherry is sweet. What kind of finish did you use on these?

Thanks Jon. I use Clapham's or Howard's salad bowl finish which is a mixture of mineral oil and wax. When this container is gone I'll be making my own batch. I have the wax and oil ready to go.

Very nice bowls, and the grains in the cherry are wonderful. They are also the right size to place in the counter next to the door.

The last Cherry bowl I did was finished with Tried an True, another shaving bowl so curious how moisture resisted it will be?

the wood is simply gorgeous !!!! and so many think a turner must make the sides paper thin or it's not a quality turning.i disagree and you just proved that.nice job.

Much better than key bowls John. They can be used for anything and make fine gifts.

Thanks guys.

Pottz, I did turn some thin bowls, big and small, but when a few broke after some use I gave up on them. One didn't even make it to where it was going.

Beautiful bowls. I like the thicker flat rims on the bowls.
