Project Information
Basically, it's just going to used as a piece of furniture, it wasn't a full blown restore. Way to many parts missing and the cost would be unresonable. The lady I did this for just wanted it looking good. You can see what I started with and in the end I think it came out pretty nice.
I went with a Tiger Maple but when. I went to stain it I got a lot of blotching and instead of fighting it I just went with it's natural color. The customer was ok with it, I'm not happy with the contrast but I think it came out ok. And, I wasn't going to remake the piece.
The top was quite difficult to make. Had to re-engineer the entire piece which was quite daunting, at least for me. Luckily, I had just restored another Singer Trundle and had something to go off of and some of the original pieces to take some measurements from.
The top was finished in three coats Tung Oil and four coats poly. The Trundle and Machine were cleaned and painted with Black Enamel.
Not the most complete or pretty restore but, I found it I interesting and I am pleased with it. This project took a long time to complete because of the shape it was in when I started and just didn't give it my full attention. I had some help early on by a couple of Jocks. I was looking to figure out cost vs. worth etc. Also, help with finding parts , so thank you Gents.
In the end this type of project is quite time consuming and quite difficult. So think twice before taking something like this on.
