Project Information

Hey Guys,

I was gifted with these lovely painted pine boxes from one of my puzzle friends who loves how I upcycle used boxes.

These particular ones were painted by a Romanian woman working to feed her family and I thought what better way to spread the Love.

Before I thought I was confident in my direction, I built a similar box to test out my mechanical theories.

One of the things I really enjoy is to fill a box so completely full of mechanisms that is no room left for an item, seems so redundant but fun to see how it was done at the same time.

The way this mechanism works is to have a series of buttons that either switch each column to either lock or unlock.

By arranging how the tumblers are inside is what gives the variable option so that it can become coded.

I like to use a simple consonants are the top row, vowels would naturally be the bottom row. Easy enough to spell a name as a code with very little to have to remember to make it work.

To rearrange the tumblers, the inner chassis is removable once open.

Too much fun!

Great "collaboration" with the Romanian woman's painted boxes.
Once again your elaborately crafted innards seem super intriguing though I have a hard time visualizing how they work. I love the concept of " filling a box so completely full of mechanisms that is no room left for an item".
That is very cool.
