Project Information

Here is my new 14" crosscut saw. It is filed at about 14tpi. The handle is made from a piece of walnut crotch. All of the metal components (saw plates, folded brass back and brass saw nuts) are from Two Guys In A Garage. The saw template is from Blackburn Tools

This was a fun little project. Lost of time sanding and shaping the handle. Also lots of polishing the steel and brass.

It cuts nice and straight and fast.

That is a very beautiful looking saw. I just finished my first handle and would love to tackle a whole saw.

Nice job.

I would advise against letting the teeth of files and rasps bump or rub.

Awesome, looks kinda like one I made from Blackburn with a similar handle. Isaac produces quality stuff.

That is inspiring. Definitely on my list, but for today I'll just have to be content with your success.

How thick of a piece of walnut did you start with? Did you have trouble picking the handle design from the myriad options?

The piece of wood was just under 1" thick. I think the final thickness is about 7/8". I just picked based on aesthetics. I like the way this handle looks.
