Project Information

My friends entrusted me with 100 year old siding from grandpa's barn. I guess in some parts of the country walnut was good enough for barn siding. Wow…what a barn. Anyway…they wanted a game table. I couldn't bring my self to take the rough edges off the walnut, so I built it into the design. The edges on top are left rough…lightly sanded to remove splinters. The bottom shelf has an awesome vein of light that pictures don't do justice. The games from the same material(not pictured) are cribbage, tic-tac-toe and a peg jump game. Everything is old school, hand rubbed antique oil.

Wow… The barn we work in when we go to NY has Hickory flooring upstairs… Wormy Hickory. Amazing what kind of lumber they used back in the day when they cut their own wood for the barns.. Beautiful table!

Docsavage45, Reluctantly, and hesitantly, I ran 2 stringers short-wise under middle of boards on top. After much consultation with my woodworking mentor, we figured there would be little movement after 100 years. Also, it would be in a mostly controlled environment. Thus, it has been attached with pocket holes. If it fails…I will honor my lifetime guaranty and fix appropriately. It has now gone through a Minnesota winter and is in it's second Minnesota summer. Thank you and every one for your kind words!
