Project Information

Last year my sweetie and I got a new (to us) house in Santa Fe. About that same time, I was reading Todd Rundgren's The Individualist and came across the line "Home is where the fart is" meaning that home is the place where you can feel comfortable enough to let loose.

I told that line to my sweetie, and she loved it and said we should get a sign saying that.

So, I found a piece of alder, read through Chris Pye's Lettercarving in Wood and this is what a came up with. I still need to work on the curvy letters and my spacing and kerning, but for a first effort, I'm happy with it.

Alder, about 7.5 inches by 11 inches (200×280mm), carved with various chisels and gouges, the letters and edges painted with Real Milk Paint aqua then a dozen or so coats of shellac padded and French polished on.

1. Finished
2. Letters painted, before sanding the surface smooth
3. Letters carved

Merry Christmas, Sweetie!

Tony, we were just discussing whether or not to eat the fresh cinnamon rolls our neighbor brought over and we decided we were allowed, because it's Christmas and we're old enough to do what we want.

Thanks, SteveN

Kind of reminds me of the Baked Beans scene from Blazing Saddles many years ago.

Maybe #8 may ask for one for their place!!

Thanks, Butcher, Dick, Kevin, and Rob! The big question is whether we hang it right inside the front door, or put it in the guest bathroom. Such decisions!

Thanks, Chuck. No tourists around at the moment. Lots of wailing and gnashing of teeth in the local media, but Santa Fe gets slow December to March anyhow.
