New (old) tool purchase! - 5 replies

I’ve had a CL search set for months waiting for a deal on a bandsaw, in this area sellers ask more than a new one costs for whatever reason. I finally got a deal (only 2 hrs away…) so I thought I’d mention my good fortune. Delta Model 14, 28-240, with riser block. It has a 1 1/2hp Baldor motor. As you can see I haven’t...

Value of fence & rails for 1979 PM-66? - 1 reply

I replaced the OE fence with an Incra TS system and don’t have a need for the original fence/rails. Any idea what they would be worth?

CL tool alert, good deal on Craftsman TS & Dewalt 734 planer near Nashville - 0 replies I have a saved CL search that notifies me when bandsaws are listed. This listing popped up in my search this morning and I think they’re good deals so I wanted to share them in case anyone in the area is in need.

Geez, please rotate pictures before posting them - 50 replies

I’m amazed by the number of pictures I see posted – not just here but on all forums I visit – that are rotated 90 degrees or upside down. It makes the pictures essentially worthless, why bother posting them at all if that one SIMPLE action is too difficult? Go to the folder where the picture is saved, right-click then select...

Value of 12" Craftsman snowflake band saw - 7 replies

I am considering selling this old girl to put the money toward a more serious band saw. Based on my research it was manufactured in the 1940’s. I put new urethane tires, drive belt and an Olson blade on it but it’s just not what I need. I’m not sure if the Dunlap motor is original or not. I replaced the power cord after I got i...

Worth trading DW733 + cash for Foley Belsaw 905? - 3 replies

Almost seems like a no-brainer but I don’t have any experience with a vintage planer. I have a Dewalt 733 that is well-used but works great. I replaced some parts and did a good cleaning and maintenance recently. I have a set of blades that are freshly sharpened ready for when the new blades I installed get dull. I also bought & instal...

Best clearcoat for antique trunk - 9 replies

This monstrosity is all tin covered. I want to clear coat it to capture the patina but wasn’t sure what would be least likely to affect or alter it. I want to also stop it from transferring or staining anything in contact with it, and keep fingerprints off. Also, any idea what sort of treatment the metal had, like maybe black oxide? Thanks...

Porter Cable router baseplate modified to fit Triton router - 2 replies

Both size Tritons use the same baseplate. This is simple and allows the use of standard router bushings in the Triton rather than buying their bushings. This is the baseplate you want, I think Woodcraft carries them. Sorry for the blurry pics. Here is the PC plate next to the Triton plate. You have to remove the ribs on the PC plate. ...

Cant Bros vintage band saw? - 6 replies

I have a chance to get an old huge vintage band saw similar to the one pictured. The frame casting has “Cant Bros”, I did a search but couldn’t find anything specifically about the name so I’m curious if anyone’s heard of them and where I can find more info. Are these old saws worth fixing to use or resell?

Kiln-dried hardwood supplier near Bowling Green, Ky? - 8 replies

I recently moved from Louisville and can’t find anyone near me who sells kiln-dried rough-sawn lumber. I usually buy in small quantities too so that doesn’t make it any easier. I’m trying to avoid driving 100+ miles (Louisville or Nashville) so if anyone knows of a supplier in this area please post or message me with their cont...

Cheap router bit sets, good value IMO. - 1 reply

The normal advice given to new woodworkers is to avoid cheap Chinese router bit sets like the plague. I have a different slant on this I want to share. I am new to woodworking, so like many I bought the 10000 piece bit set for $6 (embellishment) on Ebay, and after burning up a few, breaking one, but generally (95% or so) getting good results ...

Great blade/bit cleaner - 11 replies

Trying to share some of my newbie experiences, might help someone. Purple Power cleaner/degreaser, available in gallon size from Walmart for less than the bottles of dedicated cleaner sold by woodworking suppliers, works great cleaning resin off blades. Most of the time simply spraying on then wiping off is all that’s needed, if more funky...

Looking for early 80's PM66 fence for round tube rails - 3 replies

I got a PM66 cab saw a few months ago at an estate auction. Well used but still smooth running. The fence head is worn and sloppy on the the front rail causing it to skew & not lock up parallel. I can’t afford a new fence at the moment and was hoping someone might have upgraded & removed one of these fences while it had low miles a...

Anyone near Louisville, Ky have a wide or drum sander to flatten a glued panel? - 4 replies

I have a 2’x4’ white oak tabletop I need to get flattened. I had been using Louisville Lumber but they changed ownership and no longer do this (reasonably). I don’t have the hand planes to do it and would rather pay someone a reasonable price than spend hours cobbling together a fixture to do it with a router. Thanks!
