The story so far… I had this idea for the 2×4 project… actually I had 2 ideas, one (living in an OLD house), was to use a true 2×4 salvaged from an earlier home reno project and get to use better looking, straighter, and certainly drier lumber. Part 2: second verse, same as the first

To look at my progress so far, you’d think I haven’t done anything… but I have! I’ve turned 1/2 of my slats into dust! I decided that they were too thick for my taste (1/4 inch) and with a couple of test pieces I just couldn’t resaw them with the band saw… (easily or quickly) so I turned the tablesaw into a jointer, ran over them with 60 and 100 grit with the Random Orbit Sander and voila… fifteen 1/8inch strips… This is about as f...

Part 3: Three to get ready...

and four to blow. I spent the morning getting jiggy – had some bending to do, and though I didn’t use a jig the last time (the first and only time) I made one of these, I figured it would make things easier. So I cut up some MDF, stacked it double thick, took it to the bandsaw (got it stuck, and used a combination of handsaws, the tablesaw, and smaller bites with the band saw to get it shaped. Yesterday a.m., I made my bending jig: MDF, 2 pieces thick, repurposed from my “zero clearance” top to my tablesaw, with several kerfs cut out of the middle. This is what gave my bandsaw some problems – being grabby. Between sawing, liberating it from the bandsaw, (trying to assemble my heretofore unused jig saw attachment for my shopsmith – and discovered I didn’t get any blades with), more sawing, and finally sanding.
