Well, after being in the house for 15 years, I have finally STARTED to make good on a promise made to my wife to build out my study. I spent a number of years designing and redesigning the layout of the cabinets, and finally decide upon the approach. Originally I was going to stain the cabinets, but decided to go with a gloss black finish. Since heading down that path, I switched from Red Oak to Popular with Birch ply. I actually started the process just over a year ago, purchasing about 400 board feet of 1 by Popular. Here is about half of the wood staged for planning and jointing:

I decided to go with a break front, making the center cabinets taller and deeper than the side cabinets. Here are the side cabinets after assembly:

And the center unit after assembly:

And here they are installed in my home office after finishing:

Next up were shelves and trim:

This is project will be a long journey for me, due to lack of time, but it is nice to start making some progress.
