Here’s a set of extra long and large brad point bits that I bought in 2017 from Grizzly.com.

The reason I’m posting this is because I used them on my last project DIY Bow Sander and was wondering if they were still available.

Here I’m drilling 5/8” holes for a tension knob in a bow sander I made. Their up-cut spiral allows them to remove waste more efficiently than forstner bits.

I bought them when I was building my work bench for drilling into parts that were over 4” deep for 5/8” dowels I made on a Lee Nielsen dowel plate. My standard length bits weren’t long or big enough. A forstner bit was taking to much time to drill these 4” + holes.

Their about 9 3/4” long (254mm).

I cut out the part on the box that they came in that listed the sizes included.
They start at 9/16” (14.288mm) where a standard 29 piece set leaves off at 1/2” and this set ends at 1” and fills in important sizes for me, the only thing I would ask the mfg. is that they would include sizes 11/16” and 13/16” to make it a complete 8 piece set, in 1/16” increments from 9/16” to 1”.

They work extremely well even though the cutting end looks crudely sharpened.

I still have the original plastic sleeves they came with to protect them from rust.

Their more efficient at removing waste than forstner bits because of their up spiral design.

I looked on Grizzy’s web site and couldn’t find them there or any other sight. I’m not sure the make them any longer.

I’m glad I bought them when I did.

Anyone know if their still made?

Thanks for visiting.

I recently bought a set from someone else. Here’s the little set and there’s a big set too, but I can’t find a good link for it at the moment. If you go to that seller’s “store” it should show up, though.

They’re not great, but the price was right, and they do the job.

Thanks Dave. I looked at the site and couldn’t find a large set like mine either.

I looked at your link to the LJ who wanted to drill 3/4” holes in his bench w/one of the 9-3/4” drill bits. I think their to long to control without a drill press.

I would use this carbide tipped forstner bit or this 3/4” drill bit.

With a drill guide like this.

Don’t forget you can get an extension bar for your forstner bits to make them longer]
