« Part 7: Sometimes its the little things that make a big difference Part 8 of Shop Improvments series no next part

Finally got time to stringing a bunch of new LED lights in the shop. Don’t know why I didn’t do this when I moved in last August. Probably because it was a disaster until I got settled in the house, then winter came so i focused on insulation, and then COVID hit and I felt like shop improvements weren’t exactly essential.

Believe it or not this is how I used to work. I feel like its pretty early 1900s vibe in there with that lighting.

And this is what it looks like now…was shooting for sunlight at high noon. I think it came out pretty close

Here’s another comparison of when i first setup the shop and now

And since I had such fancy lighting now I had to make something. I didn’t get it done because I don’t yet have a drill press but I’m working on a shop made band saw. Well more like a shop made band saw fence improvement. It started from a failed attempt to make a router table fence. The fence is great but the brackets to hold it to the old shopsmith router table were not square. I had a vacuum hole cut in the fence and it was too big for the band saw so i made 2 new fences from the old one.

The front metal fence is a Craftsman accessory for my 12” band saw. I need to drill a couple holes in it and in the 2 new fences so I can attached them with some knobs.

Oh…there was one casualty to the lighting project…defective cable stapler got into an accident with the sledge hammer

Burned thru nearly 200 staples because that POS kept jamming on me. I will be sending this image to the manufacturer to let them know exactly what I think of their products.

Digging the lighting, looks really nice!

Don’t you love it when a tool challenges you to a duel? I think you won, and you can tell everyone you just have a really mean grip, no one has to know about the sledgehammer.

The lights are freaking fantastic. Never knew something so simple could make my time in the shop even more enjoyable. Its lit so well I feel like im on the set of some horsepower tv show except for wood.

Also…im still finding pieces of that stapler all over the place

Have your say...
