First Marquetry Post since AFSM

I'm real rusty and haven't had a chance to do a project I wanted to do since I returned from AFSM a year ago so I thought it was about time. I decided I needed a JIG to cut Dove Tail splines, it just popped into my head so here is the JIG in the first picture. After I made the JIG I needed some way of trying it out so I thought why not a box I had not planned of even putting a top or bottom on it at the time. I found some QUILTED MAKORE that I had been carting around for the last four years or more so I figured why not, it will be a good test. The next thing I knew I was cutting out a cameo on the CHEVALET, anyway here are some photos of what I have to date I just hope I get to finish it before we go on our two month drive out west.

This is the dove tail sled. Plans Here

here's the cameo cut out and ready to sand shade (first time doing this).

Here it is again with the sand shading (fare).

And last is the cameo glued down, this is in reverse and she will face the left after final mounting.

Her eye will be put in at final assembly and the cameo measures 5" X 2.750"
The pattern came out of Dennis Zonkers book I highly recommend the book if your into boxes or not he has some good tips.

Looking good Bob glade you're back on your Chevy. I see you got Dennis's book by the look of that cameo. Keep us posted on your progress.

Paul, It feels good to not have my plate so full. Now I can do some of the stuff I like to do on my schedule.
It does Mike, it works better then I had hoped for.
I like Dennis's book a lot he did a good job on it. Its a book you have to sit down and read a few times to get what things are most important, not just glance at pages as I found out when I first got it.

Well I lost the whole day today going to Frederick MD. today it was not a real loss because I got a chance to have lunch with my daughter and spend a little time with my grand daughter after school but between that time I went to Exotic Lumber for a little over an hour and picked up a few boards. Birds eye maple 7' X 5 X 4/4 one side sanded so you could see the figure, 4' X 5" X 1/2 White Holly, 34" X 2" X 1/2" Garbon ebony and 6 pieces of Purple heart of assorted lengths 2" X 1/4" 6" = 8" good for draws and trays in a jewelry also got some 5/4 Caribbean walnut real pretty wood.
