My wife has always been a supporter of my wood working and even got involved with building a picnic table once. This time she asked me if I would guide her in building a book rack for the books she reads on a regular basis of course I agreed. It will be made of cherry and stand 29" tall and 30" wide and tapered from top to bottom with a 10" shelf at the bottom and two "V" shelves above and all through tenons, here is a picture of her using the jointer for the first time and the parts all done. So far she jointed, planed and glued up the sides and bottom shelf then cut everything to size. I will make the MDF template so she can cut the through mortises with a router.

I think it's wonderful that your wife is having a go. She will probably find that she enjoys woodworking, especially after experiencing the pride of making a nice piece of furniture. Nothing better than both of you sharing the same interest.

I agree guys and its great to work with her. She is very creative as well, she does stained glass, china painting and quilting, we do a lot of things together. We are both having a rough go of it right now with 2 surgeries and 3 hospital visits for her and a kidney scare for me (last CT scan today) plus 3 disc's needing some work on them in my back but things are headed in the right direction with hopefully 100% recovery for both of us.
Thanks for looking more to come I hope

Todays outcome; I'm having surgery soon to remove a Facet Joint. The joint will have to be removed for access to a synovial cyst then titanium posts are placed above and below with a rod and a support pin to keep them apart. Bottom like no wood working of any kind for 6 weeks then some limited to no twisting, lifting, bending. This can be up to 4 months to full recovery for 100% with careful rehabilitation I'm happy to say.
I had another CT scan done today so I should hear from the Doctor about the mass in my kidney next week.

I made a bit of progress today on the book rack. My wife's schedule has become so hectic that she turned the project over to me so here is what I got done today.

A few weeks ago I posted a project I had built that I am sure everyone has seen in the woodworking magazines as well as a few books and in the post I had shown my third book rack and yes I am tired of making this exact project but I cant stop. I like it and I'm hooked. I thought I would change it up a bit by adding a bit of Marquetry to the sides. I set out to find a design that would compliment the style as well as the wood which is cherry I want to do this in the form of an inlay on each side of the book rack. I scanned the photo and I used Photo Shop to put the colors from the veneers I want to use, I just haven't done the shading. Next I will get it printed then cut it out and hold it up to the side if the book rack to see if I like it or not.
The only thing I am not sure about is the fact that the through tenons may cut off part of the design so we will see how it comes out and if needed I may have to make some changes. Design 8" X 12.5
