I have been looking for a glue pot for some time now and finally found one so this post is a two questions: I think the pot was painted, so how do I burn off the paint and Part two is: Can I use it with it being painted? I got it for a reasonable price so if I cant use it for Glue it would make a nice display. It holds 2 cups and is a double boiler.

don't know if paint would flake off in glue. if its made of cast iron just heat it evenly an burn paint off have done it with cast iron cookware. just build a fire and put it in. LET IT COOL SLOWLY! it will crack if not. you can put it in oven on 500f but it will stink up the house if you are married your wife may want to kill you. warning given! after it is burnt and cooled wash it with scrub pad and soapy water to get rid of the soot.

Bob, you only need to heat the glue to 145 deg F so no need to try to burn off the paint. I would go ahead and just use it the way it is and see what happens. The only place where I would pay close attention is to the surface that comes in contact with the glue. If you suspect that your glue is being contaminated you might want to strip the paint off the inside of the inner pot, but otherwise, the paint should be able to withstand the heat no problem.
