Join me as I try to work out the details of building a new shop
Here is the new shop skeleton with only 120VAC outlets and two lights. I am hoping that any of you that would like to see me put in some special do-dad or work station please tell mr what and in your experiance why and I will do my best to add that feature.
Hey Bob, congradulations on the new shop. I bet it works out nicely for you and I see you already have your clamp rack ready to go. Same kind IVe used for many years. I dont know what I could offer you since you shoud no better than anyone else what your working situation is. Only thing I will offer is that I personally would never put a tablesaw in the center of a shop less than 3000 sq ft or so. Always seems to work out well on the starboard wall as you enter the big door. If you use a router wing on your tablesaw I would recomend it on the left wing. You ll sure want to address the lighting as well. Enjoy the shop JB
Congradulations on the Shop Bob.. I look forward to seeing your other videos…Im hoping one day this year to double my shop space. I bet you are highly excited about the new space size you have to work in.
1 plug in your shop… been there done that… still there still have that… hoping sometime this year to get a new circut to the basement… and have many plugs lol
I have posted this link before (got it from The Wood Whisperer), and I check it out all the time. One thing that you mentioned that this guy focuses on is sound control, so I hope you find it useful.
Shop update - Two months gone by since last update.
Its been two months since the last update and five months since I started to build the shop. Its really coming along very well and starting to look like a wood working shop and not a storage building with empty walls.
Well Bob what a nice shop you have going on do you have an extra room in the house I'll be right there LOL. One day I hope I can build a shop like this. I only started this a little over a year ago although I have always worked around saws for tile and hard wood floors. Now I build things to sell. Thanks for all your support on my page. One day I'd lov to go fish with ya.
Dennis
Sorry this is so long
Now that all the electric is done, insulation, walls up and painted I can move onto the essentials. This will be two cabinets with six draws opposite each other and where you see the router lift will be a box set back about 16" I will put a box with a dust port on the back that will hook into the table saws dust port with a blast gate for when I use the saw as well as one for the router. In front of the router just under the top will be a 11" wide by 12" deep draw for the wrenches, inserts and lift crank handle below that will be another two draws 11" X 20" for just bits. There will be oak face frames on all three sides and the rest will be laminated with 1/4" oak plywood.
The top is going to be ply wood (Baltic Birch) torsion box dressed with Oak and attached to the table saw and the business side of the fence, the back rail will come off and an out feed table will be incorporated with shelves as well as a Baltic birch top with guides for a panel sled to ride on and will be about 49" after the blade.
Thats the plan any way I will add pictures as I get more done these next few weeks.
Thanks.

I spent the day finishing up the cribbing and putting up the six electrical boxes for the lighting with strain reliefs. Tomorrow I will start on getting the insulation done then its up to my help when I will get the sheet rock up. I have a crown molding job to do which will take all of next week so it will be at least three weeks before I can start on the sheet rock. I hope to bring the sheet rock lift back with me from the Baltimore job.

This one is a shot of the mess I have to work around.

Its up and almost done.

Looks like it is slowly coming together! Looking at your shop brings deja vu for me, last summer I was in the midst of turning my garage into a shop; rewiring, insulating, drywalling, it looked about the same as your picture. Not something I want to repeat any time soon! You'll be glad once it is done and you have your shop back to work in…
