a few years back I had stopped working with my tools, and for a while lost the bug. So, when I needed some extra living space, I enclosed two thirds of my garage, leaving a small 6’ x 22’ section in the front for storage and working on small projects.

Well, this year, as my retirement looms, I again got bit by the wood bug, and decided to start making boxes and small bits of furniture. The problem was the layout of the shop was all backwards. If you look at the early photos below, you can see the tools were pushed against the front garage doors. If I could switch them to the blank wall opposite, I could open the doors and give me unlimited space in the driveway. So, after no small amount of sweat, I accomplished this.

Next, I had to knock the dust and rust off my tools, and get everything back in shape. The heart of my shop, my 1952 Craftsman 8 inch bench saw which I got from my dad, needed updating. So, with some birch ply, laminate, and a Vega rip fence, I put together a pretty nice little saw. Since most of my projects are small, this vintage saw does most everything I need it to.
