I love to spend time out in my shop (2-car garage) working on projects. I have spent my adult life working with wood in one form or another. Interiors for corporate jets, residential cabinets, even some framing and re-modeling.
I work in a cabinet shop, doing the mundane stuff (cabinet doors) as well as the custom arch moldings, turnings and other one-off pieces for the shop.
At home I build projects for my home (read- wife), gifts, and some to sell. I go back and forth about working for myself but am real hesitant about getting stuck with deadlines and dealing with customers all the time. I get enough of that at work and like MY shop to be the place I go to relax. The people I build furniture for now know that I'm not in any hurry to meet deadlines and I will turn out work worth waiting on.
I like to take on new projects that catch my attention. I've made game boards for myself and friends, routed bowls, furniture for my house, etc. I finally bought a lathe this past spring and am practicing with it as time allows and the mood strikes.
Fall through spring are my best times to get out in the shop as the middle of summer in East Texas can be a killer and the last thing I want to do after working in the heat all day is sweat out in the garage.
