Location: Newton, Iowa

I started my career building farm and commercial pole buildings. After a few years I began building homes and small commercial buildings and eventually ended up in a cabinet shop building cabinets, repairing furniture and doing other small woodworking projects. After a few years I got in the real estate and appraisal business and currently acquire right of way and sites for a not for profit public utility, do residential real estate appraisals, and sell a minimal amount of real estate. The past couple of hard Iowa winters have renewed my interest in woodworking. I drug out some of my old tools, purchased a few at auction and have acquired a few new ones. I now have enough tools to build some simpler projects. My shop in now set up in a small 14 x 24 basement garage under the main floor of my home. The car has to stay outside, but, this little area is my hideout. The small shop can use a bunch of improvements but it serves my immediate needs and give me a place to relax. I have always told my kid that my true calling was probably a carpenter and I thought I had a lot of skills, but now as I see some project other woodworkers are doing I realize I had only scratched the surface. I now have a strong desire to learn, build a dedicated small shop and some day semi-retire using my woodworking skills. My other hobbies include fishing, camping, auctions and attending the races at the new Iowa Speedway.
