no previous part Part 1 of PMG Public Telephone Box MK 2 series Part 2: Making the roof and base »

You may have seen the one I made in 2015.

well I had a request for another last week.

No problem I will knock one up lickity split however I did a wheels up landing when I went to get the construction notes.

Guess what nil records kept so here I am 2nd week i and i have almost competed it.

I made it from common pine, I was going to use Red Ironbark and make a polished wood version but it will have to wait, a scale model was requested painted red, and i have no intention of even thinking of painting red ironbark so i set to work.

I still had two templates so worked everything around those.

Milled up some timber

and started using the templates removed bulk waste with a couple of forstner bits.

Set up the router an d bit using the radius’s from the original model

then probs started happening, blew a couple of doors out and had to start all over again.

eventually i learned “how to do it” properly ( should have asked Aniela McGinness)

gave them a coat of sealer and called it quits.

Where is my CNC? it would have made a meal out of it!

You no have a scroll saw? You can pay big bickies for one, but can also pick one up in Bunnings for not much more than a hand held coping saw.

Alternatively try an upside down jigsaw… nah! go the scroll saw.

You’re not gonna make much cash out of it… booth calls are now free…

too bad you dont have a good friend with a shop full of fancy cnc, lasers and 3d printers that would offer to help you out.but it’s hard to find friends like that these days !

Having not documented anything had me doing my home work on them thats for sure

Crowie:- thats a K6 and K 2 model

Pottz:- De Ggoose and I discussed making a production run 2015 but that opportunity is now gone!

LBD:- yep saw they decided to make them free. BBT! I could tell some stories about vandalism of them from my Telegram boy Days!
The crooks and vandals used to pull some sneaky tricks to cheat and steal from them I tell you.

The take it slowly method with the router was the operational fix. Like about 3 plunges then be very carfull too!

I was thinking of painting it green and maybe leprechauns could try to use it and when they found it

  • “Out of Order”*
(as the majority of Public phones were due to vandalism)
depart annoyed and leave their bag of gold behind as lost property tee hee !!

So how many sticks of chewwey (money for there off.. remember PK) did you extract from them?

I still remember the trick of pulling the money return tray and the icy pole for free calls… shame not too many had mobiles to call for free back then.

Hope that green leper’ has had his/her double C19 shots… Palaszczuk is a stickler for regulations.
