« Part 10: not sure if this a staged performance Part 11 of Tongue Drum Journey series no next part

Well its not exactly the start, as you have already seen the acoustic Boxes already.

I went a little off the template with this, so I am not sure if it will even work, however a guy has got to do what a guys got to do.

1. I have decided to go sideways!... as there is a general trend to venture into the unknown as other LJs, were testing the duck pond I thought I may as well conform.
2. You have got to hand it to me for at least trying, (see below) if it doesn’t work I can simply feed it through my thicknesser and remove it.

So being a bit of a convention kicker started at the bottom first

Machined up the access base to be a snug fit. Screws and feet will be added after surface finishing.

You should be able to see a slight taper on the sides and end.

Then simply pressed it into place.

I think I already mentioned screws will be added later.

Next was the top or tongues.

I had a few off cuts and wanted to use them so that’s the reason for going sideways.

being an absolute wild card i also sent them through the thicknesser that way too.

I wouldn’t recommend it unless you can live with end splintering! but it does work to a certain extent (helical is mandatory of course)

As the top would fit length ways in the thicknesser in it went for the correct process.

Once everything was flat and parallel I was time to ‘fiddle” about or use my hands.

Will it work? ... who knows

I will cut the tongues out with a Jig Saw after a little girl or boy goes past and gives me a hand.

Overall it will provide an adult and child’s hand for the tongues… a bit weird eh?

Anyway on with the glue up.

That’s enough for today gotta fire up the (petrol) lawn mower and Cut my own grass, then and reward myself with a beer or 3.

its with heavy heart I have to report my sideways venture was a fail.

I cut out an adult hand but it didn’t really look nice or produce any exciting tunes.

so I tried to remove material and see if it got any better

no improvement at all so i incrementally removed timber as an experiment.

No where along the way was there any improvement. so I removed the tongue top completly

I shelved the project and went and did something else.

my drive way gate post was a bit wobbly so I focused my attention on that..

cut a replacement one considering it was beyond repair

gave it a prime

and a final coat

Sorry about the drum screw up but Oh well the acoustic box is OK so it will come out for the second run and using conventional methods later.
