Anyone Go With the Rikon 13-926 Upgrade Yet? - 0 replies I own a Rikon 10-325 bandsaw and like it quite a bit. I also own a Nova DVR drill press, which is an impressive machine. I see that Rikon is offering a DVR motor and controller upgrade to its bandsaw line. Has anyone performed this upgrade, and can you share you opinion of it? Thanks, Ron Ford |

Need Recommendation for New 10" Compound Miter Saw - 7 replies My well-used 10” Delta miter saw has been a wonderful tool, but the screeching sound it makes as it is shutting down probably indicates worn bearings. I’m hoping some of my fellow Lumberjocks have some recent experience and can help me decide on a replacement. Any and all suggestions/information (including “stay away from... |

Anyone Using a Lathe Duplicator Accessory? - 2 replies I just made a set of table legs for a friend, and while they came out OK it made me think about getting a lathe duplicator accessory for my Jet 1642. Anyone out there using one that they would recommend? I see quite a few online, but none seem to get very consistent reviews. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Ron |

Boxwood for Turning? - 3 replies Hi Folks – I was recently contacted by a person from a local arboretum letting me know that they will be taking out a number of old boxwoods in the spring and asking if I would like any of the wood for turning projects. I went over to see what they look like and, while they are old and rather large (probably 6 – 8’ tall) there... |

Bowl Coring Systems - 1 reply Hi All – I’m thinking about adding a bowl coring system to my tool lineup and would appreciate any feedback my fellow LJ’ers may have to offer. It appears that the ‘big 3’ systems I am seeing and considering are McNaughton, Oneway, and Woodcut (made in New Zealand). I am turning on a Jet 1642, so I don’t n... |

Standard Opening on Router Table Top? - 7 replies I’m thinking about refitting my current router table with a new router lifting device (my current one requires awkward motions under and at the rear of the table) but am unsure if all router tables have the same size opening for the insert to drop into. The one on my current table (Craftsman) measures 9” front to back and 11 3/8... |

How to Clean Up a Glue/Paper Joint - 2 replies Hi Folks – I’m turning a larger vessel in two parts and and have decided to use a glued paper joint so I can turn the bottom (on part one) and top (on part two) by mounting them to scrap with a glued paper joint that can be attached to a faceplate, then turning to a finished point before gluing at the middle and final turning the ent... |

Anyone using Segmented Project Planner Software? - 4 replies Hello all – I am far from an expert turner at this point, but I have progressed to the point where I am interested in trying new projects and skills. I’ve done a few low end segmented pieces and find it a lot of fun, but it can be complicated to work out the designs on paper. Has anyone used the Segmented Project Planner software... |

Looking for Music Box Movement Suggestions - 2 replies Hi Folks – I’m planning to make a music box for my 5-year old granddaughter for Christmas but am unsure as to what music box movement to order. As I search online, I see a dizzying array of options ranging from a few dollars (probably not good) to many thousands of dollars (WAY out of range!). Have any of you found a reasonably ... |

How to Remove Bark from a Burl? - 7 replies Hi all – I was fortunate enough to find several nice little maple burls (about 9 – 10” across) on a tree that was in the local tree dump lot. I sawed them off and am looking forward to turning them on my Jet lathe. Question is, how do I remove the bark? It seems that most of the nice burl pieces I see for sale online are f... |

Depth of Recess for Super Nova 2 Chuck? - 15 replies Hi fellow LJ’ers – For those of you who use the Super Nova 2 chuck in recessed mode, can you tell me how deep of a recess you cut for it? Also,do you make square or dovetail shaped sides? I just took a plate turning class and learned to use a recessed opening, but the school used Oneway chucks which I m guessing may mount different... |

Looking for input on new dado blade set - 20 replies Hello all – I have been using a Craftsman ‘wobble-blade’ style of dado blade for more years than I want to remember, and it is time (actually, well past time) to invest in a new setup. I have been very pleased with the results this one has given me and have probably cut 1000’s of feet of dadoes with it, but it is past it... |

Mixing Alcohol Based Aniline Dye? - 8 replies Hi Fellow LJers – Any of you have a recommendation for mixing small amounts of powdered aniline dye with wood alcohol to use in coloring projects? Spindle Dancer Jig - Alternative to a Duplicating Lathe - 4 replies Not being a production turner, I found it somewhat difficult to create identical (or nearly so) items before I found plans for a ‘spindle dancer’ jig online. Polyurethane Over Spar Varnish? - 10 replies I just finished turning a segmented bowl that includes a number of pieces of redheart. I gave it a coat of sanding sealer, followed by a coat of spar varnish for its’ UV-resistant protection to keep the redheart from turning brown. Since spar varnish only comes in clear gloss, can I scuff it when it dries and apply a coat of satin polyur... |

Updated Steady Rest Link - 2 replies Here is an updated link to get to the site for a set of plans to build an excellent bowl steady rest. https://www.sheffieldwoodturning.com/Steady_Rest.html I have used mine extensively and couldn’t be happier with it and the service it gives.
