Just some initial reactions about this saw, now that it’s assembled and fresh in my mind: 1) It’s HEAVY. I don’t even have the cast iron wings—and it’s heavy in the box, heavy to carry in, heavy to install. Get it? It’s heavy. 2) The stamped steel extension wings are thin. I will try and keep this somewhat short and as sweet as I can. the TL;DR will be at the bottom in the form of pro’s and cons. My background: I am a 25 year old chemist by day and recently a woodworker by night, I grew up doing stage-craft so I and wood have a long, on again off again, relationship (the off again parts due mostly do uncertain living conditions and lack of funds). This review is for the SawStop contractor’s saw equipped with the 36” inch steel rails and “T-glide” fence. And eventually with the cast iron wings. As a preface let me say that I know that SawStop is controversial among woodworkers. This review is not an argument for or against the SawStop safety system.
