My version of the Harbor Freight dust collector

My version of the Harbor Freight dust collector

This is my second setup for this unit and will be upgrading the impeller as soon as it’s received. I love the setup and having the motor mounted in the attic with the exterior exhaust cuts down on the noise drastically. I have a 6” down pipe w/2 separate 4” drops to the tools.

Harbor Freight 2 hp dust collector modification

Harbor Freight 2 hp dust collector modification

A number of LJ’s have written about the quality, problems, solutions and modifications concerning the Harbor Freight 2 HP 70 gal. dust collector. We have encountered all the same kinds of problems and decided to modify the unit. Minimizing equipment footprint is always a concern due to shop space. The HF DC took up additional space because the dust collector dual 4” plastic dust inputs extended out over the carts side footprint. In addition the base was flimsy as other LJ have indicate...

Modifying HF's Dust Collector for Better Mobility, Sturdiness & Electrical Capacity

Over the past six months, I modified my 22’ x 22’ British-style backyard conservatory to serve not only as my gym, as it has since 1997, but also as my workshop (see, photo 1) [If interested in this conversion, including heroic saga of my fighting off tens of thousands of carpenter ants and rebuilding after they ravaged the structure, see my video on VIMEO http://vimeo.com/103100319] In sharing exercising and woodworking in a closed space, I decided that it was imperative to my good h...

Harbor Freight DC Mod

Hi, First time posting,Long time reader I just finished my HF DC mod. When I first added a seperator with Theinbaffle I noticed a big drop in suction. Once I eliminated all bends and flex hosethe collector seem like I gained all suction back. (Plus saved a lot of room) CollectorIs hung off shelf and only thing touching the floor is seperator can. Seems Awesome. I would like to add a wynn filter at somepoint when I have $$$$. (I can’t see how any more air could flow through t...

I am going to post this comment, or something similar to it, elsewhere on this site to get the best chance of feedback. I am a 70-year-old retired worker but am now also a working artist who does wall-hanging collages made from enameled or stained wood pieces. I have items in a half-dozen galleries and outlets in this town and another town close by, and the income from the projects helps to supplement my retirement income. It also helps to keep my wife from harping about me needing to get ...

Very Happy with this Dust Collector

Very Happy with this Dust Collector

Between sale price and coupon, the price was low enough that I took the plunge and bought the HF 2HP DC. —Starting with assembly:— You end up doing quite of bit of assembly with this unit, not just 2 or 3 connections. The very first thing I did when unpacking the unit was to plug the motor in to make sure it ran. I didn’t want to assemble the whole thing and then discover the motor didn’t work. It fired right up, no problems. I’ve seen talk on the intern...

2 hp dust collector

2 hp dust collector

I recently purchased a 2 hp dust collector from harbor freight and found, that for the money, it is a very good tool. Assembly was pretty straight forward and took about 2 hours.Yyou should keep a sense of humor when doing that as the instructions are pretty vague and not very accurate as far as descriptions. I bought this to replace a jet DC-650 and it does have considerable more suction pressure and moves a lot more air. All though not as much as the delta counter part which was 3 times the...

For The Money Unlikely To Be Beat, But Must Have Sense Of Humor When Assembling

For The Money Unlikely To Be Beat, But Must Have Sense Of Humor When Assembling

So, we will be moving into a new house this summer and I will be moving my woodworking tools to the basement from the garage, where opening the garage door and running a shop vac provided adequate ventiliation and dust collection. Not so in the new basement, so I decided I would invest in a dust collector. After reading many reviews, it seemed that the Harbor Freight 2HP DC unit was a fair value. I decided to take the harbor freight plunge given the cost of name brand units and with my fin...

Replaced 1 1/2hp Jet with 2 hp HF

Replaced 1 1/2hp Jet with 2 hp HF

I am very pleased with the 2hp HF. I caught it on sale for $151.99. I could not be any happier with the big difference in suction power. This was well worth the price. Knowing what I know now, the jet unit was a waste of my time and money. This unit is twice as good! God bless
