Bora parallel clamps (12" and 24")

Bora parallel clamps (12" and 24")

After owning several Bessey clamps, I figured I’d give these a try because they were 1/2 the price when Rockler was having a sale.. Heavy clamps but the plastic feels cheaper. The sliding mechanism isn’t as good as the Bessey on some of them, but on others it works great. I see these as comparing Grizzly to Powermatic. While they aren’t “The gold standard”, they’ll be more than sufficient for my use as a hobbyist. The 1100 psi of clamping force is more tha...

Don't buy cast holdfasts

Don't buy cast holdfasts

02-23-2019 07:47 PM by b1v1r | 25 comments »

As a part of my new workbench I bought some cast iron holdfasts. I really was not thinking when I bought these as cast iron does not flex as a holdfast must. In hind sight I should have bought forged or some modern hybrid. Here is what I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B5FNPW7 I also wrote up a review on Amazon as well, but these do not work at all. This came with two holdfasts. The first one worked well for the first few hits. Seemed not to lock well the first time on a n...

Terrific clamp with a major (fixable) flaw

Terrific clamp with a major (fixable) flaw

This should be a slam dunk 5-star product for hand tool users, a ridiculous design flaw knocks it down to a 4 because it’s fixable. I give the engineer who made this a big fat zero. I do not understand why Veritas ever let this issue out the door, or why they’ve never redesigned the problem. If you don’t have a tail/end vise (like me), this is a terrific substitute. I use holdfasts and notched battens but there are times when that doesn’t work so well. So I bought t...

Armor Tools Self Adjusting Horizontal Dog Clamp (junk)

Armor Tools Self Adjusting Horizontal Dog Clamp (junk)

09-09-2017 02:52 PM by lowrider | 3 comments »

I received an Armor Tools Self Adjusting Horizontal Dog Clamp for my birthday and now I’m disappointed with your product this is the second one that has broken in the same place. This is apparently a weak spot in the tool. I have pictures of the broken items if you would like a copy; also the shafts are not even the same size. I must not be the only one in the world having an issue with this item. I have went to your website and sent a couple of messages, if you feel this is not an issue...

Nice Product, But Fantastic Customer Service

Nice Product, But Fantastic Customer Service

This is one of those increasingly rare situations where a company simply blows you away with great customer service. I can’t say enough about how pleased I am with how Yost has treated me. I bought four 12” parallel clamps during a recent Amazon “deal of the day” promotion. With the discount, I felt like it was worth a shot on an unknown brand of clamps. I paid about ~$100 with tax for the four clamps. I’ve always wanted to have some 12” parallel clamps ...

Fantastic clamps that do a lot more than just clamp

Fantastic clamps that do a lot more than just clamp

03-08-2017 01:27 AM by Putttn | 13 comments »

Bought these last year and have had good success with these. They grip better than any other clamps that have this type of hand pull. I used their spreading feature on a bench I put together this weekend and it was so easy making small changes in height. Very easy to dial in to exact dimensions and very well built. Built in the USA with a lifetime guaranty. I have no affiliation but I do know I’m going to order another set. They also are rated at 300 lbs lifting. I debated long and ...

Gramercy Holdfast

Gramercy Holdfast

I have to add my two cents about these holdfasts. They are awesome, in short.I use them in my 3” thick workbench top. I did take some sandpaper and rough up the part that drops into the dog holes, because I had a tiny bit of problem with them popping loose at the very beginning. I think this may also be due to the fact that I had just wiped everything down with bioled linseed oil, including the dog holes, so it was probably just too slick. They are sturdy, lock into place with one wa...

My go-to T track hold down

My go-to T track hold down

04-11-2016 03:56 PM by GregD | 2 comments »

Not much to say. The T-Track Hold Downs from Peachtree Woodworking work very well. They are very easy to operate with one hand. The large brass disks don’t mar the work-piece when pressure is applied. And as a bonus I don’t have to give up any capacity on my cross cut and jointing jigs for the table saw; even if the work-piece extends to the edge of the jig, the foot of these hold downs can still reach under and grab the T-track.
