First Impressions of Harvey Alpha HW110S-52P

First Impressions of Harvey Alpha HW110S-52P

Well the new Alpha HW110S-52P arrived on Friday and as usual “some assembly required.” I started the assembly on Saturday and completed it today (1/18). It didn’t that whole time as I had other commitments in between. First impressions are good. This thing is a beast. Shipping weight was 720 pounds and was delivered on a lift truck vehicle. The actual weight of the saw is over 500 pounds. After getting it assembled I ran through the set ups. Fit between main table...

Post Assembly Impressions--Even Before My First Cut!

Just some initial reactions about this saw, now that it’s assembled and fresh in my mind: 1) It’s HEAVY. I don’t even have the cast iron wings—and it’s heavy in the box, heavy to carry in, heavy to install. Get it? It’s heavy. 2) The stamped steel extension wings are thin. Thinner than my old Ridgid 2412 from 20 years ago. Thin. But it doesn’t matter. Once they’re bolted to the fence system and the side extension table they feel thi...

Great Saw for the Money

Great Saw for the Money

So this is my first review of any product and also my first major woodworking tool investment. I have been a DIYer for a number of years and have always made do with standard power tools, i.e. circular saw, jigsaw, drill, etc. and small Skill tablesaw. I recently completed building cabinets for my garage and became so frustrated with the quality of the work due to the lack of precision I decided to investigate purchasing a more capable table saw since I am now doing more woodworking and have ...

A major shop upgrade

A major shop upgrade

08-25-2020 11:11 PM by ic3ss | 12 comments »

I was able to save some cash and bought a SawStop 3hp PCS last year. I sold my trusty old Unisaw to a buddy. I bought it right after I moved into our new house and it sat sadly in the box for over three months while I was traveling for work until I could get to it. I had a new toy that I couldn’t play with. My 3 car garage/future shop was full of boxes and disassembled tools, my bench was in pieces, it was a mess. I was in woodworker Hell. Well I’ve been using it since ...

Almost excellent.

Almost excellent.

I’d say I’m an intermediate woodworker. My previous table saw was a DeWalt job site saw, the 7491RS. It’s an excellent saw but with a small work surface. The good: excellent fit and finish. most parts are durable steel, chrome and iron that fit and function very well. packaging was excellent and all parts were present and in excellent condition. assembly was pretty straight forward. the measuring tape was off and was replaced quickly after a phone call. removing and re-applying the ...

Angry Mama !

Angry Mama !

I’ve had this saw for only 20 mths, it’s always had a problem blowing breakers and now I can only get about 3 cuts before it shuts down when it gets hot. I’ve already replaced capacitors like they told me. Took 3 weeks to get those. This is costing me money! So many motors going out on Delta table saws that the motors are on back order. They want me to drive my saw an hour and a half away and just leave it. Had to practically fight them to send me a motor that they are going...

Ridgid R4512 table saw a best value

Ridgid R4512 table saw a best value

I was using a DeWalt 745 portable table saw for some years, and was happy with it. It’s a little 10” jobsite saw, and it did everything I asked: rough cuts, fine cuts, bevel cuts. It cuts fast and clean, and I love the rack-and-pinion fence. When I set the fence at whatever measurement I want, I get that exact cut. It has two downsides: the miter slots are junk. They’re plain slots, not T-slots, and they are sloppy. The other downside is no dust control. This is a messy litt...

SawStop Contractors Saw

SawStop Contractors Saw

02-21-2020 04:39 AM by Fleamo | 13 comments »

I purchased the SawStop at my local Woodcraft store. Picked up the one with the 36” T-Glide fence which is most robust. The mobile base works well in my small garage shop. The out feed table attaches and removes easily with three bolts that can be threaded and unthreatened by hand before moving the saw. You cannot move the entire beast with the mobile base when the outfeed table is fastened. The saw is quiet, smooth and most importantly safe. I have added Jess-em stock feed guides using Magsw...

A great saw with a few drawbacks

A great saw with a few drawbacks

02-05-2020 02:02 AM by Knotheadwilly | 17 comments »

After the completion of my new shop, one item I definitely wanted to upgrade was my table saw. I have had a Bosch 4100 for almost five years and I can’t say too much bad about it. It was accurate, powerful, dependable but where it lacked was dust collection. I started researching saws a while back in anticipation of my new shop so there was a lot of internet time reading reviews and specifications. I also watched a multitude of videos on YouTube to help in my decision. I had narrowed it down ...
