My band saw is far from top of the line but this one item has improved it greatly.Had I not seen it demonstrated at a wood show I would not have paid the approx $70price. The lower guide is removed when using this. I can scroll cut shapes that I would never have tried with this saw. http://www.carterproducts.com/product.asp?product_id=37&cat_id=14

Carter Rikon 14" Deluxe Micro Adjust Guide Conversion Kit

Carter Rikon 14" Deluxe Micro Adjust Guide Conversion Kit

I’ve been living with my Rikon 14” Deluxe bandsaw since I purchased it about a year ago. I’ve resawn a handful of lumber, cut out some cabriole legs, made jigs… a fairly rounded work history. It’s been okay, but I felt like the blade never really tracked properly even after a lengthy and tedious tuneup. Then, I decided to make the plunge and purchase a set of Carter Micro Adjust guide bearings… POW! I just won at life. Yes they are expensive, and, ye...

Excellent Bandsaw Fence

Excellent Bandsaw Fence

I did not buy the fence that was available for my General bandsaw when I got it six or seven years ago. I was clamping a piece of wood on the table to act as a fence when needed. I finally got tired of this tedious chore, and when I read the reviews of some of the available bandsaw fences, I found that none of the reviewers were unequivocally pleased with them. I had never heard of Woodhaven before finding it by doing an internet search, but now I know that they make some solid and versatile ...

Timber Wolf 3/4" x 2-3 Variable Resaw Bandsaw Blade

Timber Wolf 3/4" x 2-3 Variable Resaw Bandsaw Blade

I was resawing some old reclaimed white oak last week when my resaw blade snapped in half. Not a pleasant sound. Luckily I was in the middle of a cut, I had just finished cutting a piece and stepped a couple of feet away to grap the next piece of wood. That’s when I heard the huge band. Even though I had never experienced this before I knew exactly what it was. The 3/4 resaw blade bought I originally bought with the saw from Grizzly had snapped at the weld. So I decided to call the f...

Good resaw blade

Good resaw blade

My Highland Woodworking Woodslicer got dulled up really bad because I did not pay attention when I put it on the Jet bandsaw. I was using a 3/4” and it was really too big for a 14” bandsaw. I ended up running it against the blade guard and just beat the crap out of the teeth. My bad. Markrules is a fellow LJ and reps Morse blades. He suggested that I try their 4 TPI 1/2” blade.Well, when I unfurled the blade one of the teeth caught my thumb. I can tell you that the teeth ...

The most incredible value in the industry

The most incredible value in the industry

I bought a new Rikon 18” band Saw for my shop a few weeks ago. This is really my first band saw and I am very happy with it. I decided on buying a couple of after market blades by a very reputable manufacturer but I had so many issues with them that I send those back to woodcraft where I bought them. The third blade came directly from the manufacturer and for some reason did much better for me than the first two. Still, cuts with this 3/4” wide, 2-3 TPI blade were not as smooth a...

Carter MagFence II

Carter MagFence II

My 14” Rikon band saw is dedicated to re-sawing and other straight cuts. I was not happy with the original fence and I purchased this Carter magnet-based fence. I’ve worked with it for some and now I offer a review with both the positives and the negatives in my opinion. As expected, the quality and the workmanship are outstanding. This tool is well made. The fence is held very securely with the 2 included 30mm MagSwitches. There are 4 places to hold the MagSwitches, so you can adjust it t...

Starrett Bimetal Band saw blades

Starrett Bimetal Band saw blades

I saw a bi metal blade working at Degoose’s workshop, Larry demomstrated cutting a couple of rips from some timber and the results were very impressive. He cut two runs from a length of timber and produced very accurate results from his band saw fitted with a new Kreg fence. With this in mind I decided to try it for myself on my bandsaw, which BTW is notorious for cutting where ever it wants to, generally not where the operator wants it to go. So I purchased two Blades:-1×224...

Laguna Driftmaster: 5 Stars for performance, 3 Stars for fit and finish

Laguna Driftmaster: 5 Stars for performance, 3 Stars for fit and finish

10-30-2014 04:05 PM by Rockne | 2 comments »

I’ve pretty well summed up my feelings about Laguna’s terrible customer service, or lack thereof (search for my review of the LT14 SUV). When they failed to deliver the saw, I sent all of the accessories/blades back to Laguna . . . except the Driftmaster. Had anyone out there produced something like it, I would have opted for the alternative, but since Laguna is the only game in town, I held onto it. When I opened the pacakge, I was a little disappointed. The clear plastic/c...

JET 6-inch riser kit for 14 inch bandsaw

JET 6-inch riser kit for 14 inch bandsaw

07-07-2010 02:34 AM by MOJOE | 15 comments »

So I installed this kit today on my JWBS-14DX. It was very straightforward and took about 30 minutes by myself. I must confess that I watched a quick vid on youtube, and ditched the instructions. I did look through them afterwards that they seemed alright. Anyway, the fit and finish on this kit is pretty good, and everything went together smoothly. My only complaint…..the powder coating on the riser block was not quite as nice as the powder coating on the saw, but, that really isn&...
