TSG-FDC Overarm dust collector: Poorly designed hood—no better than the standard

TSG-FDC Overarm dust collector: Poorly designed hood—no better than the standard

05-15-2022 03:12 AM by Sark | 4 comments »

The standard included blade guard works just as well as the expensive add on dust collector hood as far as dust collection is concerned. From the SawStop manual: “The design of the blade guard creates such a powerful airstream that it effectively removes dust even without a vacuum system connected.” But’s that’s a quote about the standard included blade guard with a measly 1.25” port. Too bad this advanced design doesn’t apply to expensive add-on overarm dust collection sold by SawStop tha...

Good Entry in the Dado Market

Good Entry in the Dado Market

I did a video review and full test of the new Sawstop dado blade. I plan to do a long term update to see how the blade and case holds up. As of today, it’s a 4-1/2 star blade. Video review… https://youtu.be/M5ILYtXDK1M I have dozens of dado blades in the shop and can compare this dado stack to the Dewalt 7670, Infinity Dadonator, Whiteside Plus by Dimar, Forrest Dado King, Ridge Carbide North Woods Dado Master, among others. Hope it proves useful.

SawStop Router Lift, Cast Iron Table, Mobile Stand, Fence & Bora 3.25hp Router

Review: Inspection and Assembly of SawStop router lift, cast iron router table, mobile stand, downdraft dust collection box, and fence. Plus a Bora Portamate 3.25hp router motor. Here it is fully assembled. There was a lot of assembly required over several days. I have to say everything fit perfectly there wasn’t a single hitch or issue during assembly. I was quite impressed with the quality, fit and finish. The components seem heavy duty. Here’s the back, that fence is ...

JessEm at a steep discount?

JessEm at a steep discount?

I wanted to post a review of this fence because there’s not a lot of information out there – I hope that this proves useful to prospective buyers. In short, this fence is marketed as an accessory made exclusively for a couple of SawStop router table tops, but I believe that it’s a lightly modified JessEm Mast-R-Fence II that would be suitable for a wide range of router tables. It’s worth noting that, currently, the Mast-R-Fence II retails at $229 while the RT-F32 has an MSRP of $169,...

Post Assembly Impressions--Even Before My First Cut!

Just some initial reactions about this saw, now that it’s assembled and fresh in my mind: 1) It’s HEAVY. I don’t even have the cast iron wings—and it’s heavy in the box, heavy to carry in, heavy to install. Get it? It’s heavy. 2) The stamped steel extension wings are thin. Thinner than my old Ridgid 2412 from 20 years ago. Thin. But it doesn’t matter. Once they’re bolted to the fence system and the side extension table they feel thi...

A major shop upgrade

A major shop upgrade

08-25-2020 11:11 PM by ic3ss | 14 comments »

I was able to save some cash and bought a SawStop 3hp PCS last year. I sold my trusty old Unisaw to a buddy. I bought it right after I moved into our new house and it sat sadly in the box for over three months while I was traveling for work until I could get to it. I had a new toy that I couldn’t play with. My 3 car garage/future shop was full of boxes and disassembled tools, my bench was in pieces, it was a mess. I was in woodworker Hell. Well I’ve been using it since ...

SawStop Contractors Saw

SawStop Contractors Saw

I purchased the SawStop at my local Woodcraft store. Picked up the one with the 36” T-Glide fence which is most robust. The mobile base works well in my small garage shop. The out feed table attaches and removes easily with three bolts that can be threaded and unthreatened by hand before moving the saw. You cannot move the entire beast with the mobile base when the outfeed table is fastened. The saw is quiet, smooth and most importantly safe. I have added Jess-em stock feed guides using Magsw...

Expensive and not compatible with just about all SS accessories I own

Expensive and not compatible with just about all SS accessories I own

I’m sorry to say that I am really disappointed with the SawStop Folding Outfeed Table. Because of the incompatibility with other SS accessories it has the feel like some type of poorly engineered third party add on. They should at least state what SawStop accessories it does not work with. Some incompatibilities have been noted in other reviews such as on Rockler but a new one is that the installation also requires you to cut off a portion of your Over Arm Dust Collector. I started with t...

The SawStop meets or exceeds my expectations (so far)

The SawStop meets or exceeds my expectations (so far)

05-27-2019 12:30 AM by NoSpace | 2 comments »

I finally got the SawStop. I bought it just before prices went up and couldn’t bring it home for a month until I cleared space in the 1-car shop. I can’t compare this to other saws of its class, but my experience may be useful for those in a similar situation, where I had a DeWalt jobsite saw that I was able to make suit my needs and should I upgrade or not? The safety mechanism I figured I couldn’t justify NOT getting, as losing a finger could ruin my day job, and what&#...
