First Grizzly Purchase HORROR SHOW

Hello All, I am new to Lumber jocks as a member but I have been lurking around here reading reviews and opinions for a long time. I am in the process of building a new woodworking shop and have gotten a lot of great ideas on shop design, tool selection, and many other tips and tricks. It is really great! I am in the process of purchasing new equipment for my new shop and decided the first purchase to be a Grizzly G0513X2 bandsaw. I made this purchase just yesterday. After reading about ...

Grizzly 0815 Planer Review: Must read if you own it or want it.

Grizzly 0815 Planer Review: Must read if you own it or want it.

5 star planer that has a “but” which makes it a 1 or 2 star planer This is a marvelous planer: absolutely zero snip [as long as you lock the cutter head], 8” of travel, 2 speeds, no huge expensive cabinet, heavy, no need for adjustments worked great right out of the box. Zero snip even when planning 7’ hardwood without infeed nor outfeed tables. Grizzly sells the Shelix helical cutter head for this planer. I purchased and installed it. The results are perfectly smooth boards th...

Grizzly T31496 - Helical Cutterhead for 13" DeWalt Planer

Grizzly T31496 - Helical Cutterhead for 13" DeWalt Planer

I purchased and installed this new cutterhead for my Dewalt 735 planer. Very smooth online purchase and delivery, good install instructions along with a Youtube video was all I needed to get the cutterhead installed. I was a bit skeptical about installing the two bearing, but they were fairly easy to seat with a block of wood and a deep socket. With this setup you do not have to remove all the carbide cutters to install. I took my time and the whole install process took about two hours.Th...

Time Will Tell

(40 years professional architectural woodworker) This router is a clone of Makita RT0701C but includes plunge base & all accessories. The first one I purchased from Grizzly cost $50, but was returned due to somewhat bogging down (slower rpm just free running with no load), overheated collet-bearing area and eventually an electrical armature varnish burning smell, right out of the box. Not as smooth running as the Makita, which cost $90 . . . with better balanced armature, nice soft ...

Heavy Duty Roller Stands That Will Last!

Heavy Duty Roller Stands That Will Last!

02-17-2020 03:25 PM by HorizontalMike | 9 comments »

Grizzly has hit a solid “Triple RBI” with this new heavy duty roller stand! The only thing stopping this from being a “Grand Slam” is that it only adjusts between 24 to 38 inches in height. I needed at least 42-1/16” to reach my 14” Band Saw table height on a mobile base. The regular machine roller stands would not give me enough height either. What I ended up doing is building my own mobile base, using 3/4” plywood and 3” wheels. This fi...

Unboxing Grizzly Jointer

Unboxing Grizzly Jointer

03-14-2019 04:55 PM by jywagner | 13 comments »

I sold my grizzly 6? jointer recently. I have been researching and planning for my upgrade to an 8? or 12” model ever since. But not a lot of G0495X or other 12” jointer review out there, found a few very similar 8” jointer from Baileigh, Laguna, and Powermatic, all these three jointers identical in design. Plus, cost quite much more than G0495X. Why I chose Grizzly 495X with spiral cutter head. I chose the Grizzly 495X because I can only afford this model at this price, possibly deliver b...

Grizzly benchtop bandsaw... some good, lotta bad & mostly ugly...

So for Christmas/Birthday (wee holiday birthday…), I asked for a small bandsaw, and, due to some mistakes/misinterpretations – some my fault / mistakes too if I’m honest – I ended up with one of these Grizzly little benchtop jobs. https://www.grizzly.com/products/Grizzly-9-Benchtop-Bandsaw/G0803 For those who know the deal – this is “that same model” thats made in probably a couple different Chinese factories, rebranded under about 100 names fro...

An okay saw.

An okay saw.

11-27-2018 07:47 PM by bgilb | 10 comments »

For the money, the saw is okay at best. I used to have a Rigid R4511 (the crazy granite top one) and honestly some things about that one were better than this saw. Things I like: Solid construction and very heavy and well built. It runs really well so no issues there. Good dust collection. The blade guard is good. Things that I don’t like: #1) The fence (at least the one I got) is garbage. Everyone said it was upgraded compared to the previous model. The fence is not flat, it&#...

More than I was looking for

More than I was looking for

THIS ROUTER IS BARELY A MONTH OLD AND THE MOTOR QUIT WORKING. GRIZZLY IS SENDING A RETURN MAILER FOR A REFUND. IT WORKED WELL OUT OF THE BOX, AND SEEMED LIKE A GOOD DEAL. GUESS I’LL BE LOOKING FOR ANOTHER ROUTER SOON. ANY SUGGESTIONS? I almost always use the router table, but wanted a plunge router for a project I was working on. There are a lot of trim routers on the market now with plunge capability and 6 amp motors. The T27139 was the least expensive of the routers I looked at...

Drum Sander

Drum Sander

10-25-2018 12:52 PM by Jarrhead | 6 comments »

Been wanting to add a drum sander to the shop for many years. Shopped hard for a decent used one on craigslist. There were some options out there in the used market, but they were either too big for my needs, or too expensive for their condition. I finally got prodded to take action by a project I started that involved some spalted wood. I found some gorgeous spalted tamarind for the carcase of a jewelry box I am making. Unfortunately, because of the spunky nature of the spalted wood, no...
