I bought these clamps based solely on the price. I have longer Dubuque bar clamps which are fantastic. These Wood River clamps were half the price of the 24” Dubuques at Woodcraft, so I figured how bad could they be? Pretty bad, actually. Having now tried to use them twice, if I saw them for $5 each at a garage sale I would not buy them. The cast iron heads are poorly machined to the point where I had a pile of metal shavings beneath them after trying (unsuccessfully) to tighten them...

A decent table for the price

A decent table for the price

I had a shop built table that I generally liked. But it was heavy and came too close to the height adjustment crank. So when a friend of mine was helping me move the drill press and broke the table, I wasn’t terribly upset. So I was looking for a replacement and not having time or inclination to make one, I found this new release from Wood River. For $100, sure, why not. The table is reasonably nice. I prefer a taller fence as that provides something to hold narrow pieces against, so...

An absolute "newbie" meets Wood River Hand Planes

An absolute "newbie" meets Wood River Hand Planes

Firstly,,, I did plenty of research, living in Maine that meant the internet as I don’t have a selection of biological live beings I can actually interface with. From one video to another… and came up with the idea that the tools with the most reviews were the ones that most folks used… folks that all know more than I do. So, between reading reviews, comparing pricing, and listening to the experts I was pretty sure Wood River met my requirements. Woodcraft has a 3-pack ass...

Pretty pleased with this plane

Pretty pleased with this plane

My daughters gave me a Woodcraft gift certificate for my birthday. I don’t have a low angle jack plane which I have always wanted. I did the usual research and decided that I probably will go with LN or LV version in the future. I have the Woodriver 4 1/2 which I really like and after reading the reviews here and elsewhere, I decided to go for the Woodriver 5 1/2. I was very pleased with the fit and finish, everything flat and square, etc. The blade is quite hefty and just needed a lit...

So I decided to expand my hand tool collection. Did some research and settled on wood river for my first major hand tool investment. I am really pleased with the quality and performance of this tool. For more information on this line of planes, reference rob cosman via YouTube. Check out my initial reaction when opening this beautiful plane. https://youtu.be/xwCHgyJoIkA

Exactly What I Needed

Exactly What I Needed

This set of silicone chisel tips/guards is exactly what I’ve been looking for since I started using chisels for serious woodworking. They are rugged and feel like they will survive quite a bit of use, fit standard flat chisels nicely, and are bright red so they don’t disappear in a pile of shavings. There are 10 of these in the set, about $10 or so. Shown here installed on a few of my chisels, at $10.00 for the set, not cheap, but sure helps keep the cutting edges from bangi...

Wood River #62 low angle Jack Plane

Wood River #62 low angle Jack Plane

I’ve wanted a bevel up jack plane for a while. When Wood River brought out their #62, I agonized over paying extra for the lee valley. I have a V3, #4, #5, and a low angle block plane that I’m very happy with. I had a discount coupon so I bought the wood river #62. Out of the box, it was a beauty. The sole was flat, and the sides were dead on square. I bought an extra 25 degree blade, and the 40 degree blade. I polished, and sharpened the blades. I sharpened the 40, and one of the 25’s with a...

Wait for a sale. Not worth full price IMO.

Wait for a sale. Not worth full price IMO.

Just bough one of these from Rockler.com on sale for $35 and free shipping. Mine is a Port-A-Mate PM1000, but is IDENTICAL to the Wood River unit pictured in another review. I picked one up for my jointer (21” x 42” base size) and am very satisfied with the quality and function based on the cost. They are still on sale, and I plan on buying two more for the same price. If I had paid $60, I would expect a little more. I believe I would build my own rather than pay full price.

Exceptional performance at a reasonable price

Exceptional performance at a reasonable price

I purchased the medium WoodRiver shoulder plane in December; it was 20% off and then I had an additional $10 coupon. Before tax; $110. This deal was too good to pass up. After a few minutes on a 4000 grit water stone the blade was razor sharp. The body was perfectly square and the blade adjustment works very smoothly. I have never used a Veritas or Lie Nielson should plane and cannot compare the WoodRiver plane to the others. I am very pleased with the WoodRiver shoulder plane and would r...

WoodRiver #92 Medium Shoulder Plane

WoodRiver #92 Medium Shoulder Plane

Have I mentioned I have the best wife in the world! Found this under the Xmas treel. What a beauty, feels good in the hand, nice heft to it. Will have to research how to prep it for use and the sharpening angle etc.. More review will be added later, but see no reason not to do 5 stars. I pulled it apart and put it ack together and no pieces were broken/cracked etc. Hmm, I’ll have to cut some dado’s and tennons so I can use it. LOL! Like i need an excuse.
