I was fortunate to receive a $100 gift card for Lee Valley Tools. I used it as a partial payment for this tool rest. https://www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/collections/100476-modular-tool-rest-system I didn’t buy the whole package, I was really after the box scraper platform. It works as good as I hoped it would. I was able to get it real close to a piece I was turning, and it really made a difference hollowing. Usually for me, hanging way out over the tool rest gave a pretty rough sur...

So, this machine is a glorified belt sander. Said glorification is however, not unmerited. I’ve been turning for less than a year, I purchased all my turning tools used, none of them had a consistent profile on them… until I purchased the ProEdge. I found myself hunting for other tools to sharpen. Cost: This unit is expensive and if I hadn’t had a gift card to knock a nice chunk of the cost down, I probably wouldn’t have bought it. I received the Sorby Sandmaster from my children as a Christmas present. On the surface you might think “Why do I need a tool for sanding a bowl?” I normally use regular sandpaper (Norton or 3M) for finishing my bowls; this however turned out to be a whole different story. I found that I am not seeing the wonderful concentric circles from the sandpaper scratches and I don’t believe I’m getting much if any heat buildup. I just completed a crotch maple bowl this mornin...
