This is not primarily a woodworking book. This book was published in 1945 by GM and shows the proper use of most common hand tools. The book is illustrated with a Disney character called “Primitive Pete”. This caveman shows improper tool uses that result in damage or accidents.

This fun book can be found used on eBay or Amazon.

I have a link to download a free electronic copy of the book from the GM Heritage Center on my website here…

I used the Primitive Pete movie when going over safety in my shop classes. The middle school kids loved it.

The video is on YouTube…

I was going to embed it, but I question the copyright status.

Stephenw- thanks for the post. I used ABC of Hand Tools for 30 years in my shop classes. I will date myself when I tell you that the narrator is Art Baker the original host of the TV show You Asked for It. Jack Smith took over for Art. I can’t wait to watch the youtube video it will bring back good memories. Thanks again. bob

Do you have a copy of that video? I have been searching for years for that movie!! It was always my favorite part of the first week or two of shop class – 35 – 40 years ago…
