This saw came as a kit from Blackburn tools which included the saw bolts, saw plate, and saw back. Isaac works with you to make sure you have what you need and will end up with a saw that you are happy with. He also has some good information on line about how to sharpen and build your saw as well as templates for the saw handle.

The saw itself can be ordered with rip, crosscut, or hybrid style teeth in a variety of ppi. You have to sharpen the saw yourself or send it out for sharpening but even if you sent it out for sharpening the price of the kit is very reasonable so you still end up paying less compared to other hand saws of this class

The size of the saw is a great all purpose length/depth. It is somewhere between the size of a carcass saw and a tenon saw (maybe a little closer to a tenon saw) with a 3” depth of cut and 14” length.

the only tricky parts in building it were closing the slotted back (still not quite perfect on mine), and getting the placement of the saw plate perfect in the handle. you have to clip the saw plate to fit into the handle a little bit and i wish the templates/instructions were a little more detailed so that you had a better idea of how to get a good fit during this step.

I might remake the handle with a more interesting wood at some point and fix some of my own mistakes but since this is a saw kit which i built myself I feel pretty good about redoing it.

Overall i would highly recommend this saw kit not only for the versatility of the finished product but also as a good way for anyone to try building their own tools without a huge investment.

Isaac and Blackburn Tools are awesome. I purchased his split nut wrench… that thing is a beast at removing old split nuts and works flawlessly on my new ones keeping the edges from rounding over from assembly/disassembly of the saw.

I’ve built two of Isaacs kits, a kerfing plane and a 48” Roubo frame saw. The instructions were well done and easy to follow. The hardware is excellent. Both worked flawlessly at the get go.

Nice job on the saw, should serve you well for years.
