The R4512 is the closest they now offer, but other than color, rough size, and duty rating, there’s not a lot of similarity. The R4512 is a hybrid style saw with an inboard motor vs a traditional contractor saw with an outboard motor. The R4512 also has steel wings vs grated cast iron. The R4512 has a riving knife, the 3612 had a conventional splitter. The design of the swing arm on the R4512 is also different, and was the cause of problems for the first several years of it’s existence. Both had 13 amp belt drive induction motors that push about 1.5hp. The fence on the 3612 was superior IMO. The 3612 was made by Emerson in the USA, AFAIK the R4512 is made by Dayton in China.

In a nutshell, even though the R4512 has more modern features, the 3612 was a superior saw IMO due to good execution of it’s design.

There is no comparison for the older saws versus the new ones. The older Ridgid saws were made here in the us and they are all Chinese now.
