I’m still trying to figure out why they are sending me catalogs, since I’ve never bought anything from them ever, or even been in one of their stores. I doubt I’ll get a VIP invite, but you never know :)

I have the super-coveted “VIP” status with Rockler. I get extra special treatment like free shipping with $35+ orders and a catalog every month.

No store within about 400 miles, but I’m still special enough to qualify.
I value this relationship more than even my Homeowners Club of America membership!

So to all you unwashed masses, neener neener! 8^)

I got an invitation also. I went ahead and registered. I’m curious how many people get these. I do have a “Pro” account with them as I have a state sales tax waiver and business license. Might be interesting.

An old post but apparently Rockler is having it again. I signed up for it and got my ticket. It’s next week here.

Bumping an old thread…but I just got my first VIP invite.

Any feedback from any of the past events?

I guess the $1500 I spent there last month got me special treatment….better not tell them I’m completely tapped out before I RSVP.

I’ve been to the VIP event and it wasn’t anything spectacular, but it was fun. Free snacks, drinks, specials outside of their normal sales, 20% off entire purchase, demonstrations, etc. If it’s close by, it’s worth it to pop in see how yours does it as I’m sure each store is different to an extent. Like my Rockler will have sales on the 30” x 60” 3/4 Birch Plywood and that’s not even listed on Rockler’s website.

It’s about 30 minutes away, so might be worth the drive just to see if I can score a door prize.

My wife says she’s game to go, so might as well give it a shot.

Thanks for the reply, I’ll post back how it goes.

Bumping this again.
I was thinking I’d go for the door prizes, wondering if anyone who’s been can say if the prizes are worthwhile, or if so many people showed up that your odds of getting anything good were nil?

Wife and I went last night.
Store got pretty crowded, but I’d say maybe 50 people showed up…
Refreshments were pretty basic. Think LaQuinta continental breakfast.
Demos included their CNC Router, one of their lathes, the new compact router table, and a yet to be released doweling jig.

Makita rep had a table setup with quite a few battery powered tools.

Giveaways started at 7:30. Going from memory it was silicone glue brushes, silicone mat, apron, Makita drill index, bench cookie master set, drawer slide jig, Bosch drill, and a Makita brushless router set.

While it was an overall enjoyable experience for my wife and I, the general mood of the group was like a bunch of crotchety curmudgeon types browsing a library aisle.

Maybe I expected too much thinking it was going be a louder and more lively group, like when I get together with my cigar or gun buddies.

Oh well, I snagged some bent wrenches, a package of thumbscrew worm gear clamps for my DC hoses, and another pack of router table shims.

I went last night to the Spring, TX location. Brought my 4-year-old.
As Scap said, it wasn’t a very social occasion – there were some tool demos with a thickly knotted crowd around them, but not a lot of mingling of people – too bad, because I’d like to get to know more local woodworkers.
About 80 people in the store, and around 10 raffle prizes, ranging from cheapo glue accessories to a cordless (lithium) router and some Freud dado stacks.

Overall, A pretty good excuse to spend 1.5hrs checking out Rockler. And I personally had a blast, and enjoyed the chance to see all they have to offer. My boy had a blast too:

He got to cut a board with a japanese pull saw.

I’ll go again if they do it next year.

The Houston location was talking about your location last night.

I think it’s great the turn out was as large as it was for Spring, since that location is brand new.

Have your say...
