If you can’t read the words in the picture, here is what it says:

Great cabinet saw! Moving to a basement shop and it’s too big for my new down sized shop. Great design – riving knife, tilts left, etc. It’s only a little over 6 years old – hobby use only. With freight this saw costs almost $1500 new from Grizzly. Here’s the link to Grizzly’s page for the saw:
http://www.grizzly.com/products/10-3-HP-240V-Cabinet-Left-Tilting-Table-Saw/G1023RL

Poplular saw – rated 5 stars on Grizzly’s website. I also put a mobile base on the saw – very easy to move around! You can check out the base here:

Some of those Shop Fox mobile bases have
a problem with bad caster wheels that crack.
They’ve probably fixed the problem by now
but there are still older bases out there.
I had a couple wheels crack on me on one
and I was able to swap out wheels from other
single casters I had.

Should be a great saw. Id say price is decent. The limitation Ive noticed when looking at the specs of this saw is that it is only 26” cut.

That’s the one thing I’m not sure about. Would like to have more capacity. Wonder if that can be upgraded down the road?

I’m thinking back though, and can’t remember the last time I needed to rip something wider than 24”....

The front rail of that fence is 2×3 square tube i believe. You could replace the front and back rails to extend it. The back rail should just be a piece of angle iron. It supports the extensions tables and allows the fence foot to ride on it. Otherwise you should be able to buy a kit from Grizzly.

I bought my G1023 for $550 about 6 years back. Its a left tilt without a mobile base though. Id try and get him down another $100 but I’m a cheap bastard.

Check the belts for wear and check the miter slots for alignment to the blade. Both can be fixed easily however. Id also raise and lower the blade to check out that worm gear. If you can see it under power that’s a plus.

I haven’t thrown anything at the saw that it couldn’t handle. 2” maple, 2” cherry, 4” doug fir. No issues. I did nibble away at the doug fir in 3 passes.

For that price (or even less), you should be able to find a nice Unisaw w/Biesemeyer or PM66… American made and better parts availability/support. IMO, that Griz is way overpriced. YMMV.

It’s pretty easy to slide the front rail over to the right to gain another 10” rip capacity. Just leave the bracket, and slide the rail by one bolt hole….you’ll have one less bolt, but plenty of holding power, plus there’s no drilling. You’‘ll need to relocate or replace the measuring tape, and fill the gap between the front and rear rails.

Looks like a nice buy at $850 to me….the G1023RL has the factory riving knife. Treat yourself to a new blade!

Yeah, I’m still waning back and forth. At first $850 seemed like a really good price, but now I’m not sure. Lol

He said he is firm on the price. However it’s been on craigslist for 9 days with no buyers…..

Proof that his price is too high.

When you find a sheet of plywood over 48 inches wide let me know.

As far as how long it’s been on CL, you assume that CL is full of people in your area that have a need (or the money for) a saw of that caliber. Just because it hasn’t sold immediately doesn’t mean it’s overpriced, just a small pool of buyers.

Where I live, you see a saw like the ones you listed advertised about twice a year. It is either priced higher than a new Grizzly or it isn’t fit to haul home for free. I have seen a couple of good deals in the last 5 years and they sold the same day they were advertised. Don’t assume that the used route is practical in all locations. $850 seems a little high to me too but not terribly so.

I have had my Grizzly table saw since about 1985 . Still runs perfect. Love it and never wonder if it will do what I think it should. It is a 12 ’ – 2horse motor. Dado, rip, cross cut. make cove trim/ Even done resawing as deep as it will allow on 15’ 3” thick beech beams.

Are you located near Cedar Rapids (here is the original CL ad)? Hotbed of used equipment. I lived up there for a bit – the deals are everywhere if you keep an eye out for them.

If it sells tomorrow, would you regret not buying it? If it’s in really good shape, I don’t think $850 is a bad price for a nice 3hp industrial cabinet saw with a very good fence and a true riving knife. A new one is $1484 shipped, plus the mobile base. $850 is about 54% of new….pretty reasonable if in nice shape. There’s not a ton of financial downside on the deal IMO.

Would I buy a PM66 in similar condition for $850 over the G1023RL? ....you bet…. if there was one. What are the odds of that PM66 with an Accufence showing up any time soon? The bird in hand story comes to mind.

That is half the price of a new one. Again – I love mine and it is over thirty years old.

I have had the 690 3 H.P for 3 years now and love it!
$850 isn’t that bad, but if you’re ready to buy, just make him an offer.
The saws are very heavy, so bring help to haul it home if you decide to buy it!

No matter what, you’re saving hundreds over new. You can pay twice as much for a warranty and that new car smell, or you can enjoy the extra cash in your pocket and roll the dice. Most of us here can fix most anything, so even a bad roll will cost us mostly in time.

Me, I go used and save the cash whenever possible. I get no joy from paying more than I have to. Even if he says “firm on the price”, I’d still bs with him and try to knock off another $50.

I’d also throw out the fact that you have a contractor saw that may need a new home and if he hasn’t bought one yet as he’s downsizing a swap and cash could happen.

I have a 2009 model 1023 left tilt and it is a great saw. It is accurate, very low, if any vibration; and has plenty of power. The price for me is OK, but then again that is MHO. A new one with mobile base and shipping will set you back $1600 -$1700+. I would commit and lock in the price. Put a new Forrest WWII on it and you are ready to rock. Good luck, work safely and have fun.

Went and looked at the saw, and it’s in great shape. Didn’t see a single thing wrong with it. Decided to get it!!! Very excited – picking it up tonight.

As someone who’s only used contractor saws, I’m excited to start using this beast and making some precision jigs
