Jet planer thicknesser plastic gear

I don’t know anything about that machine
but I had an INCA jointer/planer that had
a plastic helical gear in it for the feedworks.
My understanding was that if something
went really wrong in feeding the plastic
gear would fail and was thus a sort of
failsafe. It was considered a consumable
part and replacements were available.

What Loren said. I too had an INCA J/P and went through a couple gears. I was told that was an engineered weak point to save damage to other parts.
