So that’s one vote “for,” I assume. :)

Just for the record, I don’t have a stake in this. I do think that it’s the one really weak point in this otherwise excellent web site. In fact, I almost posted it to the site feedback forum.

Go for it.

It’s a publicly posted photo….not someones underwear drawer.

I don’t do it, but, i’m defintnetly for it. Most times I’ll ignore the post completely cause it’s a total PITA and usually not worth the effort.

People need to figure out how to post pictures and it’s been discussed MANY times.

I do not read posts with rotated pictures. I say leave the pictures the way they are posted and let people figure out the right way to post pictures.

I also do not look at blogs that just say…look at my video with no other explanation.

I love some of the recent blogs with pictures showing the details on how a project is made.

I think people who take the time to fix careless mistakes of someone else should be rewarded. I frequently just ignore threads that start out that way. It is exceedingly annoying.

I don’t have an issue with it. Though the original poster should attempt to verify the orientation of their photos, the preview doesn’t work when posting project pics. Also, the pic is on a public forum and unless presented as their own or for profit, there’s no violation of ownership by someone changing the orientation, that I can see.

Good points. A big +1 on the posts that just say watch my video. How useless can it get?

Anyway, it looks unanimous. Lots of thoughtful comments, and one characteristically random one.

Thanks.

Yeah I tend to stay away from the watch my video ones.

Now if it was a full post accompanied by the video link and I was interested in the post I’d ne more inclined to watch.

For fixing them, but I’m too lazy to do it unless I have a comment that requires the pic fix. I wont watch a video unless there is text and pictures about the project in the thread.

Just so you know Rich, the only one who can stop my practice of fixing photos for people is the site administrator. It just goes to show you, just be cause you are educated doesn’t mean you have common sense.

You said it doesn’t sit right with you and you apparently was out looking for people to support you. Had you gotten the support you wanted ….......what would be next?

In the interest of this thread not going further south, using up the worlds pop corn supply and being closed, I’m done responding to the thread.

It’s actually more sinister than that. I’m secretly forming an underground LJ army and planning a coup to take over the entire site!!! The list of members slated for re-education is being made up right now.

OK, seriously, I’m not sure where that came from, AG. If you want to believe I was looking for people to support me so I could take some sort of action to stop it, you’re welcome to. If you read my words (and understood them), you’d realize I share your frustration and think that it is one improvement that could be made to the site. The EXIF data in a photo uploaded without the editing that TungOil carefully documented contains the orientation of the photo, and that could be used to ensure the photo is not rotated. I’ve honestly never seen another web site that has this problem.

I do have an issue with manipulating the property of others. That’s true. I did photography at a semi-professional level for many years (I say semi because the full time pros take offense at anyone with a day job saying they are a pro), doing weddings, events, etc. I made good money at it, and my clients were universally happy with my work. I was very protective of my intellectual property since, if someone manipulated my photo with my copyright on it, it would reflect badly on my reputation.

I actually have you slated for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, papadan…lol

I have to say that I’m surprised at the notion that some got that I have some ulterior motive for asking. I wasn’t expecting that, nor am I bothered that it’s unanimous. It’s sure been fun though.

I think of it as akin to being handed a picture, book, newspaper, etc. by someone sideways, and rotating it so you can see it better. So long as there are no snide remarks to accompany the correction, I’m for it.

I don’t have a problem with folks doing it as long as there’s not a snide remark that goes along with it. A simple “here u go” or “this way looks better” is fine but I don’t lik seeing a couple sentence rant on how someone hates sideways pictures Like Thumpers mom told him “if u can’t say nothing nice then don’t say anything at all”
Also I’m with papadan. Blogs and such that only hav a video I will not view To me if it ain’t important enough for u to type a few words and post some pics along with ur video then why is it important enough for me to watch it
Those are my thoughts anyway
