Ever considered therapy??

For sure your post shows that you are not great. If you do not like this forum, nobody is forcing you to visit it. You obviously do visit it so your neurons are definitively not in great working order. Time to take your pills :(

Probably should hav made ur post a bit more friendly. Also if u already don’t like this site why join it An start calling out ppl for what u think they’ve done wrong…. if u can do it better than b polite An stick around An show us. If u can’t b nice about it u should just start ur own site An not ruin this one
Also I’ve seen Cricket intervene on several occasions and I hav to say each one was WAY off the topic of woodworking…. some where just plain disgusting and should hav never been on here
One of the main reason I joined LJ is that it seemed lik most folks were real nice an considerate towards one another.

I hate to feed the troll. But if you think a forum should spend more time discussing a particular topic, then you should start a thread about that. Not immediately start complaining.

And you know what is great, LJs!

I think it’s one of the best forums on the web. Most members act like grownups, people seem to keep their political views to themselves, and generally don’t act like they’re half in the bag when they post. Plenty of technique gets discussed. Old tools, new tools, tech. And if someone offends, it’s more likely by accident then intentional.

As a new member to the site, I too thought maybe the initial post might be a bit aggressive :), and to the OP’s post, I lurked here as a non member for months and have found an incredible amount of useful and helpful info from various forums so far (try reading the entire HPOYD, Furniture builders, and Before and After restoration forums) and that was part of the reason why this site was appealing to me.
Anyhow, not sucking up to anybody, hehe, but product reviews do have a place especially if one is contemplating plunking down some cash for new tools (hand or electrical powered) and is unsure of which choice to make prior to purchase.
Sometimes real slow deep breathes do help to calm the psyche prior to posting or verbally launching into a rant.

Have a nice day

You guys spend WAY too much time talking about the machinery and NOT NEARLY enough time time talking about technique.

- godelescher

Well….. we seem to have general agreement on that first statement. But before we all get overheated, may I suggest that—- since you want more discussion about technique—- you offer some insight into some aspect of technique? Or ask a technique-related question?

I’m sure we could have a positive discussion about technique—- which would be better, IMHO, than devolving into a mud-slinging contest

OK, godelescher didn’t choose to be particularly diplomatic, but several of his points are valid. It’s like the golfer searching for the self-sinking putter. Work on your skills, because the best saw in the world won’t stop you from making bad cuts.

For me, what’s not classy is bringing politics into it. Those of you who chose to use this opportunity to vent your dislike for the president stooped pretty low.

DW, how are you this evening. Some years ago I had reason to remove my shop and projects pictures from this site. Since then I choose to post pictures of projects or my shop in the thread of mine or someone elses where it is appropriate. If you would bother to notice when cruising this site you will see them. I even posted pictures in the Shop of your dreams thread. Anyone here should agree that the OP here does make some points, I didn’t post about or criticize him for being the total lunatic that he is, I’m sure everyone in his life reminds him of that fact. What I enjoy is that the trolls of this site MUST come to this thread or any other they find just to attack me. I guess because I block them from ruining my threads. You mention my not having a shop or project posted, what about ALL these trolls on this site, like Robs88, TonyS, MrUnix. Ask them where their shops are and their projects. I don’t have a problem with Cricket and I don’t start anything to give her a problem with me. I might ask her question, but she doesn’t answer. I don’t care how many threads get locked , but I do prefer to reply to my attackers before they get locked. I have posted hundreds of answers and thread to help people with all kinds of problems from what tool to what wood, to what glue, how to do this, how to use that. I posted a thread of information that I believe to be true about magnaflux testing. A lot of people disagreed with me, some posted their proof that I was wrong. Some claimed to be experts in that field. I don’t know them or their backgrounds and I didn’t call them liars. I was taught by the manufacturers of the equipment on the proper use of it. I used this training for about 24 years and never had a problem. I just thought I would post what I knew to maybe help someone else. All the crap has started from that thread. The trolls have followed me to every thread and post and harassed me about the magnets and how stupid I am. I have blocked them all and my life is a little easier without them. Every chance they get though, they attack me in someone elses thread. Just like this one. They don’t care anything about the fool that started this thread, they just jumped me for posting in it and giving them an open target. My complaints are that the admin of this site wont bother to read any of this, they will just lock it up and threaten to ban people, and on occasion they used to bann people, Martin would give them a short suspension and if they kept their nose clean when they came back it was over. If they started again he would boot them. I never had a suspension even though I have always had controversy on this site. Me and some of the OLD timers still have each other blocked from years ago and we coexist just fine. Every word of this is true and can be proven if needed. Every post, you make, Pm you send, or receive is saved in you profile and I have never taken out the trash. This site is mild compared to what it used to be, but the admin was fair in their actions and read the thread to see who started what before taking action. I don’t have a problem with Cricket, but I do miss martin.

The reality is forums are a much better venue for product reviews than skill building. It is easy to try multiple techniques quite cheaply at home and find the one that works best for you, it is hard for most people to try 10 bandsaws and keep the one that works best. It is nice to get multiple opinions about what is the best “chisel” in a particular price range. Whether my opinion of forums is correct or not if you look across forums of all sorts across the internet they tend to be gear driven, go on a racing forum and there is less discussion of trail braking or how to set up for the corkscrew at Laguna Seca than brands of shocks and how to get the most power from a 1ZZ-FE.

So true AHuxley, But there are a lot of beginners that need some direction to start in and these forums provide that also. As much as it hurts to say Sawmill Creek has the right idea on running a forum site, they just don’t know when to ease off. They have zero tolerance for anything off topic, but they go too far. If someone says to use product A and someone says use product B, no problem. But if the second guys says no product A is wrong and you need to use product B, the second guy gets banned for life and the first guy gets warned. I only lasted 20 minutes as a member there. One of their policies is No Advertising on their site. While setting up my profile I listed my website in my signature line. My first post in new members had 3 members screaming at me for the website and the and the admin erased my post and my profile information and threatened to ban me for life if I tried anything like that again. I sent them a polite reply that My web site contains free information for anybody to use and that there was never anything for sale on it. If they don’t like helping people then I wont help them. Yep, banned my butt for good! I miss them so badly.

I didn’t realize he started that stupid magnet fight, how sad.

It is weird that popadon wasn’t so active while DKV was active…hmmm.

So true AHuxley, But there are a lot of beginners that need some direction to start in and these forums provide that also. As much as it hurts to say Sawmill Creek has the right idea on running a forum site, they just don t know when to ease off. If they don t like helping people then I wont help them. Yep, banned my butt for good! I miss them so badly.
