Haven’t tried the pro-grind, but I do have the Turner’s Laser Guide from Ron Brown, and have just the opposite experience (except for the instructions – I had to make an account to download as well) – I found it to be an excellent tool for the $. Everything fit right, tightened down correctly, etc. Saves a lot of time when hollowing vessels – no need to stop to check wall thickness, no more questioning where the cutting edge is.

Haven’t had a need for his grinding jig, but I have purchased several other products from Ron Brown (laser guide, some specialty tools, micro-crystalline wax, etc.) and have been 100% satisfied. Logging in to his website is no big deal (for me), and there is a lot of free info and instructions you can download.

A number of years ago I bought a Ron Brown Longworth Chuck at the Denver Woodworking Show. It is phenolic with button screws, wing nuts and silicon bumpers. Because of the phenolic material it will NOT stay in the position as required to hold a turning, as it slides apart – expands – no matter how tight the wing nuts are. I used three bolts with locking nuts, in addition to the wing nuts, so as to hold it in position. The next time I saw Ron Brown was at the Phoenix AAW Symposium, and I explained the problem. His response was, “So, what you want me to do about it”? He then turned around and walked off. All I was doing was explaining about my problem with his product. So, with his attitude, there will be no more Ron Brown purchases from me ! As a repeat of Dan V. in Indy – “The stuff he sells needs to work for the intended purpose”. And from me – without modifications.

Before Ron got big he told me he would make me/us a jig for making the flower things and told me when I was ready contact him. A year later when me and the other disabled vets like me I teach were ready to use his jig and he told me to make it myself.

If you know me and me and Ron have talked a lot before this time and he knows of my problems I was quite surprised to hear him say this and asked him again and he told me the same thing.

For all of his faith stuff he is always saying he does not live up to what he says and I no longer get his monthly news letters either.

So it wasn’t just me. I had another turner look it over today, she is a professional design engineer. Her verdict- wimpy, useless.

I met him at WIA a few years back and bought 1 of his DVD’s. I talked with him for a few minutes after the purchase. I wish I had talked fist, I would not have bought the DVD. He is a real A++HOLE. In his defense, it is a good DVD.
